  1. Supremeus Roadkill says:

To be fair Washington’s was before it was illegal.

    • captain obvious says:

and jefferson’s, it was considered normal

    • blaster999 says:

Washington grew industrial hemp – not for smoking but rather for creating fabric

      • fnord says:

wrong. Read his diary, where he instructs his gardener to separate the female from the male hemp plants, a procedure only necessary when you want the hemp for smoking.

    • LeBoss says:

Whats wrong with Lincoln, that’s being homophobic, as well a lot of these are either taken out of context or were socially acceptable.

      • GermanGirl says:

        My thoughts exactly.

      • TJ411 says:

not to mention that they literally ‘Slept’…

there is no evidence that anything sexual happened and it was actually common as late as the 1940s for platonic friends (even later for siblings) of the same gender to share a bed when neither could afford their own (or when none was available for guests)

      • Cooltrainer says:

Exactly. If you’re looking for a gay president, pick Buchanan anyways.

        • Thomas says:

But 85% of Americans wouldn’t get it, so let’s call one of our greatest presidents and a shining beacon of humanity a “queerosexual”. That will bring in the ad revenue.

      • says:

Seems like a good idea to me. Where better for your bodyguard to be than right beside you as you sleep?

      • ratatoskr says:

My thoughts exactly when reading this. Some of these were just stupid, with Lincoln being included for that reason being the stupidest. Also, incest it might be to marry one’s cousin, but in many parts of the world – including several states in the US – that’s perfectly legal.

To side these with murderers and mafia-members is just ridiculous.

    • sadface says:

WTF? Am i the only one who noticed they put homosexual up there because he slept in the same bed as his body guard? number 1 that doesnt make him gay just because he slept in the same bed as his body guard it was probably for protection and number 2 who gives a crap anyway? being homosexual is not a bad thing

  2. marg says:

Homosexualism as a dark side? Get ready to be called a raving homophobe, OP.

    • Callista says:

OK. The OP is a raving homophobe. There ya go.

(BTW, I don’t think Lincoln was gay–sharing a bed didn’t mean that much back then. Not that I’d be disappointed to hear he was, though. It’d be kind of cool, actually.)

  3. whats up with that says:

why is homosexual up there being equated with murder and racism?

  4. Schluppy says:

sleeping in a same bed with a guy is homosexual? not that I care about your presidents but that doesn’t seem like a good reason to be a homo.

  5. SirBaggs says:

Were Nixon and Clinton really necessary?

    • richdog89 says:

ya. I think there’s a lot more presidents we can put in the “adulterers and connections to organized crime” category.

  6. Reese says:

There are probably a LOT more faces that could go up there for adultery.

  7. DookeyKing says:

    Can’t believe Kennedy’s ISN”T adultery. WTH?

  8. Atanar says:

Wtf a kill in duel is not murder, it’s genious. I whish polititians would still do it instead of starting wars.

  9. OleJ says:

*Takes a look at what Lincoln did*
So, the one who made this is a homophobe? Interesting…

    • Linkstar says:

And for the creator, sleeping with a man meens having sex with him.
God I had sex with my mother when I was young so!

    • Kuroneko says:

Yeah, I had the same feeling reading that. How is homosexuality among the “dark side of the US presidency”?

    • Demon of the Desert says:

To make matters even stranger, pointing out that Lincoln and another man shared a bed doesn’t mean he was homosexual. In that time, that was common while traveling, etc. And the fact that there were a lot of people who really, really wanted to hurt Lincoln (I’m hoping you can name at least one) would’ve made it even more likely that he kept a body-guard close.

      No homo.

And yet, like most of the internet, the OP seems to assume that the only way two males can relate is through homosexuality.

    • Psychoceramics says:

Sleeping in the same bed makes you gay? Damn, I’ve been gay since my senior trip to Disneyland, despite what my fondness for boobies might say.

    • Blank says:

They should have mentioned him being a white supremacist

    • me says:

Lincoln should have been adultery because he was cheating on his wife with his body guard.

    • Lexi Rose says:

He slept in the same bed as his bodyguard, but it’s not like they had intercourse. it was for extra security. And even if he was homosexual, how is that a dark side?

    • W says:

the only thing Lincoln did was murder, murder vampires that is

    • Dr Hax-Supreme Commander of teh Gmod fleet and Cheif Monitor Thrower. says:

*takes a look at what Lincoln did* first, This^,

      also…

… how does sharing a bed make you gay? They didn’t do anything.

  10. Joshi38 says:

Abraham Lincoln being a homosexual is…bad?

  11. Teri says:

And OP is not very educated on history… this list should be a lot longer with many more presidents on it for varying reasons if the OP wants to continue the way they started.
    Otherwise yes, uneducated homophobe.

    • Catt says:

Just because he mentioned Lincoln being in the same bed as his bodyguard, the OP suddenly has a completely irrational and debilitating fear of all people who could be considered homosexual by nature? Calling random people “homophobes” is more judgement than the OP mentioning the bed thing.

However, we all can agree that the OP is uneducated, to say the least.

      • Rhai says:

Yeah, you’re right, the fact that OP equated homosexuality with incest and murder and racism and adultery is totally not homophobic at all.

  12. ffffff says:

Sleeping in a bed with a same-gendered person: now considered blatant homosexuality.

  13. Enrique says:

By the way, kennedy was on medication because he got injured during war world two, saving a whole bunch of his scuadron, i’m not sure if he was in the army or the navy, maybe the army because ibheard somewere he got at purple heart.

  14. random characters says:

Somehow, Nixon having ties with organized crime does not surprise me one bit.

  15. piggy says:

You missed out the Regan sexual assault!

  16. Face says:

this might be one of the stupidest and most ignorant things I’ve seen on here

  17. lolwut says:

Wasn’t JFK using drugs because he had i think back problems ?

  18. IceD says:

So apparently, gays are lunatics now.

  19. :/ says:

    Repost, that is all.

  20. shin0bi272 says:

you forgot wilson. He re-segregated the military and was a proponent of not only socialism but eugenics.

  21. Niko says:

I would not consider homosexuality a “dark side”. The fact that it’s sharing the same status as murderer, drug dealer, and gang member on this graph reminds me of how backwards our society still is.

I also wouldn’t consider sharing a bed with a bodyguard to be indicative of someone’s sexuality (without further information, at least).

  22. Tatersack99 says:

    Firstly, gays aren’t lunatics.

    Secondly, Lincoln wasn’t homosexual.

  23. Gimpy says:

Washington grew hemp which was legal and used in fabrics, not weed.
Adams married his third cousin which lessens the severity of the incest.
In Jefferson’s time just about every slave owner had sexual relations with one or more slaves.
Jackson killed a man in a duel which was considered both legal and civil.
Just because Lincoln slept in bed with another man doesn’t mean he was gay.
Theodore Roosevelt fought in the Spanish American war so it is understandable that he would have some animosity towards Cubans. You could easily have brought up the fact that he thought everyone must pledge their allegiance to America and completely abandon their heritage.
FDR married his fifth cousin which is so far apart that had he not been famous few people would have even noticed.
Kennedy had war injuries which he took medicine for. The least you could have done is brought up his adultery.
Nixon I’m not sure about, and Clinton well that ones easy.

TL;DR: Most of the “facts” are poorly worded and need more explanation than what the poster provides.

  24. Tektok says:

yeah this is pretty stupid.. and if you are going to talk about Jackson, why would you mention duels and not the Trail of Tears?

  25. GenericTroll says:

How is homosexual a crime –?

  26. DUDEBROMEGA says:

Whoa, whoa, whoa, buddy. Slow your roll. Since when is homosexuality a ‘dark’ point of anything, may I ask? Also, Lincoln had two wives and three children.

  27. l_i_z says:

sleeping in the same bed as someone of the same sex doesn’t automatically make you gay? and even if he was, what does that have anything to do with the list of presidents who have done bad things, such as cheating and killing?

  28. ILoveTheMods!!! says:

How the heck is being gay a ‘bad’ thing???

  29. kjjk says:

LINCOLN WAS NOT GAY. He had a ton of kids and had dated many women before. Tell me where you found that Lincoln slept with another guy?

    • lilgreenfish says:

You do know that gays and lesbians have been known to marry the opposite sex…for various reasons. And even have kids. Societal pressure, family pressure, religious pressure, not fully realizing you’re gay, not wanting to admit you’re gay (circles around to the various pressures)…

And as to Lincoln being gay…it’s a possibility that’s been thrown around. But he only had 4 kids. Which, by today’s standards is possibly ‘a ton’, but still not out of the ordinary. And a smaller number for the times he lived in.

    • Geth says:

No offense, but it’s not unheard of for gay men to date women, get married to a woman and have a tonne of kids.

However, merely sleeping in bed with someone of the same sex is not homosexual in nature. Female bffs have been known to do it from time to time. Plus, his bodyguard being in the same bed is supreme protection.

    • jakobijnen says:

Oh no, you mean that… that… homosexuals hide their sexuality?

    • GermanGirl says:

It’s hard to prove that someone is not gay. He could’ve had a wive and kids because it was accepted of him and to hide his homosexuality.

    • TJ411 says:

It’s generally accepted from several sources that he shared a Bed, as was common at the time (too poor to have a spare bed and electric heat wasn’t invented)… there is no proof or even serious speculation by scholars that it was sexual,

the only ones who push that claim are usually Campus GLBT groups either trying to Claim Lincoln or shock people with the charge or in the case of the OP anti-gay who see it as ‘wrong’

  30. Kapitano says:

So it’s now ‘dark side’ to be homosexual.

And sharing a bed with someone always means having sex with them.

    Thanks for telling us.

  31. Imsurroundedbyidiots says:

JFK was on pain killers because he injured his back serving in the Navy during WWII- the boat he was captaining was run over by a Japanese destroyer. JFKs boat was 80ft long, the Destroyer wass 360-400ft long.

The Roosevelts were very distant cousins. Eleanor and Franklin were fifth cousins, once removed. They are both descended from Claes Martenszen van Rosenvelt who arrived in New Amsterdam (Manhattan) from Holland in the 1640s. His two grandsons, Johannes and Jacobus, began the Oyster Bay and Hyde Park branches of the Roosevelt family. ER is descended from the Johannes branch and FDR is descended from the Jacobus branch. See http://www.gwu.edu/~erpapers/teachinger/q-and-a/q6.cfm

  32. chapster says:

Lincoln sleeping in the same bed as a man =/= gay sex. They could only afford one hotel room, with one bed. Those days, everyone wasn’t terrified of someone calling them gay, so they didn’t care. They just slept.

    Do actual research.

  33. fi says:

which one married his cousin who was a lesbian? was that FDR?

(I’m not american, i don’t pay much attention to presidents.)

not that it matters. as far as i’m concerned it is more about the job they do than the rubbish in their personal lives.

apart from nixon. he was a corrupt son of a bitch.

  34. Monos89 says:

Killing someone in a duel isn’t murder. Both people go into the duel with knowledge that they might be the one to lose and not come back from it

  35. Globbo says:

Washington owned a Marijuana farm? Awesome, But that dosen’t make him a drug dealer
Maybe the man just likes getting high
If I had wooden teeth I’d smoke an ounce a day, that’s for certain

  36. Mrs. Gerard says:

Homosexuality is not “dark”. This is extremely offensive, and whoever made this is full of crap.

    • lolhahah says:

Owning a marijuana garden is also not ‘dark’, but you don’t see people getting butthurt over that. You guys need to calm down, it’s a joke.

  37. Andrea says:

There is only some evidence to support the Jefferson claim, and only the Nixon and Clinton ones are certain (the dude was cheating on her before they were even married), besides that this is a lot of out of context nonsense. I’m guessing the person who made this found some stupid internet list and went with it.

    • bronchialstatue says:

JFK also had ties to organized crime. He went to the Chicago Outfit to take out Castro in the months leading up to the Bay of Pigs Invasion. He was also a notorious horn dog who tried to lay every piece of ass he could. I think popping some pills to take care of a war injury is the least unseemly aspects of his life.

Nixon was as corrupt as most of the politicians of the last 50 years. His problem was he got caught. Not sure about the organized crime connections, though…

  38. Wyatt says:

Lincoln did share a bed with his bodyguard, but they never had sex with eachother. It was considered normal to share beds with other people back then.

  39. Rachel says:

How do I rate memes now? I want to give this one a -5
    .

  40. Martoflavin says:

Marrying your cousin is incest??? I’m getting a divorce…

  41. Me says:

I love how americans try to make it ok for a rapist/slave owner president by calling it “normal for the times”

    • CirrusMinor says:

You can’t blame a man for living in past times’ customs, with the morals of today. Waht you can blame with the morals of today is past times’ customs, no more that this.

  42. christy says:

americans are stupid and homophobic, heres why. firstly the americans on memebase are a majority, secondly they almost ruined the internetz and thirdly, why is the president POSSIBLY being homosexual a problem? americans are cool sincerely, the rest of us.

  43. anne says:

I don’t think ‘homosexual’ should go there. It just makes him more hot <3 <3 as if that were possible.

  44. CirrusMinor says:

Lol this graph is moronic. Half the “crimes” these Presidents are judged for were no crimes at their times, or aren’t even today (sleeping in the same bed as a man, marrying your cousin). What’s left are the obvious ones everyone knows of : Nixon and Clinton.

But i’ll have to add the fact that supposedly most of them masturbated on a regular basis and even, at times, called people bad names.

  45. Alex says:

Owning a marijuana farm doesn’t make one a drug dealer and sleeping in the same bed as a man doesn’t make one a homosexual.

  46. Herpy-DerpKenobi says:

Sooooo… Being homosexual makes you a lunatic? Didn’t know that.

  47. Tyr1822 says:

Adams married his Third cousin, FDR his fifth cousin, neither of which is a crime, nor is it even an issue when it comes to genetics. Speak to the Europeans about cousin marriages and incest…

  48. andr5036 says:

How is homosexuality a black side to presidency? It’d be adultery if anything, considering Lincoln was married at the time. Damn anti-homosexuals.

  49. sean says:

so homosexuality is a dark side?… good job asshat

  50. arc says:

homosexuality: now something as bad as murder.

  51. Nulono says:

FDR was his wife’s fifth cousin once removed, so I hardly think that counts. And sleeping in the same bed as someone hardly means you find them attractive.

  52. Bronkowsky says:

So apparently being gay is just as worthy of being mentioned as killing someone and being racist. Huh.

  53. you can make anybody seem like a bad person by posting something about their past in an exaggerated fashion

  54. Slim says:

OBJECTION! 5th cousin is practically a stranger. 3rd cousin isn’t immoral for a pre-industrial society.
Also the idea that Lincoln was gay is historical revisionism.

  55. lolhahah says:

Lol@ all the butthurt people pointing out Lincoln and the bodyguard thing. Get over it!

  56. Bee says:

The Lincoln & gay thing… why am I suddenly thinking of Electric 6′s song Gay bar?

  57. Alex says:

Something tells me a Bush is missing.

  58. Jake J. says:

Really? Andrew Jackson in duels? The dude killed innocent Natives just for land! Homosexuality isn’t bad; hemp growing isn’t bad, even if you use it for drugs (that’s an opinion). Marijuana > Tobacco. ’nuff said.

  59. thatguy says:

In regards to Lincoln it’s called being sexually comfortable, I’m straight as a laser but I can still sleep in a bed with another guy.

  60. James C says:

The Thomas Jefferson – Sally Hemings thing is a myth.

The dna proves that she had children with A Jefferson male, of which there were more than two dozen living in Virginia at the time.

    http://www.historum.com/american-history/20662-question-about-thomas-jefferson-sally-hemmings.html

  61. pazuzu says:

being gay is not a “dark side”. Nor is adultery :)
Not to mention that some examplest from this list are great exaggerations. For example calling participation in duel in XVIII century “a murder”.
Whoever made this picture is either narrow-minded bigot, or troll. Or both…

  62. HerpDerpHistorian says:

Apparently sleeping the same bed is the same as being sexually attracted to someone.

    Watch out for sleepovers, everyone.

  63. Chloe says:

Roosevelt married his 5th cousin, there was no more genetic crossover than any other two random members of a population. Also, this makes me want to claw my eyes out.

  64. Grady says:

What about our most recent ex-president? “Mr. War Criminal – dragged the country and its economy into two unsanctioned wars, using lies and propaganda to garner the support of the citizenry” (also works vaguely for LBJ)

  65. megs says:

Let’s just put aside the stupid idea that homosexuality was chosen as a “dark side”. The real mistake was not choosing Lincoln to represent RACIST.

Here’s a quote from the Lincoln Douglas debate: “I am as much as any other man in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

  66. good gravy says:

Hey guys, I’m outraged by the Lincoln post so I’m going to make a comment that has been post numerous times!!!11oneone!1!!

    • Bad Custard says:

Just so we’re all clear here; Good Gravy believes that you should stop standing up for something you believe in if 20 or 30 other people are already standing up for it.

  67. Peter says:

First off, Duels were legal back when Andrew Jackson was Prez. Secondly, if you were shot in a duel, they didn’t classify it as a murder.

  68. Red Spy says:

Duels are awesome, first off. I wish they were still around, it’d be a real thrill to challenge somebody honorably.

On Teddy with Cuba, excuse me when I ask who WOULDN’T want that dirty island wiped off the face of the earth?

  69. InvaderWeezle says:

    What’s wrong with being homophobic?

  70. dontreadthis says:

Whoever made this was such a moron… Especially about Washington, Lincoln and JFK.

  71. dgagf says:

FYI Dueling is badass and should be brought back.

  72. breadedlightly says:

I’m not sure Teddy Roosevelt ever said he wanted to commit genocide. Cite it next time.

  73. E says:

Wait a minute, you’re telling me politicians are shady people?
