  1. thomasbauer says:

    first first first ;)

  2. Buster says:

Metallica is a really piss poor example of metal. At least the version in the picture.

  3. Workard says:

Metallica is an perfect example of Metal, they play metal music. If you rather want Slipknot and stuff. That aint metal, that’s core-metal. There is a tons of different metal types, and Metallica is pure metal. I don’t like them, but its metal. Aaaand the other band isn’t a boyband, they too play some hardcore music.

    • Francis says:

      Metallica is thrash metal.
To me, the best example of a metal band is Cannibal Corpse or Dying Fetus.

      • Anon says:

Perfect example of metal would be Iron Maiden in my book.

        • Quigley says:

Metallica is thrash metal, Iron Maiden belongs to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal… Either way, it works. You can’t take a band and say “Now THAT’s metal” just like you can’t take Beethoven and say “Now that’s what I call Viennese classicism, unlike this little Haydn bitch”.

          • PerpetualMotionMachine says:

            This. ^^^
Just because a band is a different subset of metal doesn’t mean it isn’t metal. If any of go onto a metal lyrics site (I highly suggest spirit-of-metal.com), you’d know that there are f*cking TONS of different genres of metal, and most of them sound very different from each other, but they’re all still metal. And if the only reason you think Metallica isn’t metal is because they aren’t as harsh as the more modern bands, keep in mind that they were formed in the 80s, when metal didn’t necessarily have as much of an edge as it does now.

      • Max Thunder says:

        Metallica WAS thrash metal.

      • Svidur says:

Nah, Technical Death Metal is influenced too much by Jazz. But then again, there is no Metal genre that is not influenced by any non-Metal genre.

      • jesse says:

lol cannibal corpse is an excuse,

and just cause i can, those metal core, death core, hard core wannabe crap bands are destroying metal. theyre just copying other stuff and making a crappier version of it

      • Workard says:

        Noo. That’s Death-Metal, or Black-Metal.

    • deviladv says:

Metal is not going to the congress and whining that Napster is “stealing” your music. Metal is sticking it to the RIAA and getting your music to fans with a better distribution model. That’s Metal.

    • nabend1401 says:

Who is the other band. They look like something that lives in walls or under floorboards.

      • Zippo says:

I do believe it’s Black Veil Brides. o3o

          • Flood says:

            My Chemical Romance 2.0

            • Tyler says:

Not sure if trolling or if completely uninformed.

Most people think MCR was an emo band because they had some songs about dark themes, but none of their song were meant to be emo, most of what they wrote was conceptual. They got such a bad rep and had a terrible fanbase and everything they did was misconstrued, so they changed completely. Go listen to their new stuff and tell me if they sound/look the same as BVB.

              • LC says:

Do you even think about what you write?
Neither of those bands is emo. BVB make some thrashy generic new school post-hardcore/screamo-stuff, and my chemical romance made some pretty good alternative rock (now they make some pretty boring pop rock, in my opinion).
The reason why people classify this as emo is because people just like to talk trash and people believe everything is emo if at least one member of the band wears skinny jeans or make-up and/or they had at least one “sad” song. No way to talk about “meant to be emo” there. That term just isn’t making any sense. Led Zeppelin would still be hard rock even if they “intended” everything they wrote to be jazz. Intending stuff is just not how genres work.

The term emo, however is one that no one who knows anything about music would even use anymore, because he has been used for everything, be it indie-rock, pop-punk, pop music, alternative rock or screamo. (Hell, people even called Pink Floyd or The Smiths emo, that doesn’t make any sense.)
The few bands you could call emo if you look at what that meant when it was used by the first artists? Most people would just call them punk/hardcore bands.

So learn your vocabulary before you begin to blabber.

              • -Rage_Quit- says:

                Still don’t like them.

              • Anon says:

Oh, poor MCR, didn’t get what they deserved with music?

                *cough* guillotine *cough*

              • Flood says:

I used to listen to MCR when I was in middle school. After Helenda, though, they just became too bad. And yes, MCR started out screamo, then became sort of alternative, then The Black Parade came out and they dropped straight down to emo. I think they just developed an eating disorder and evolved into Black Veil Bride.

                • Vero says:

If you’re young enough that MCR was around when you were in middle school, you’ve got no room to be talking about what constitutes good music. Go back to your corner, musically oblivious youth.

                • cazzaiero says:

you really do need to die, i mean seriously. just die

        • Oreo Bandit says:

Yes, it’s an older Black Veil Brides picture, when Sandra was still with them. Not really a “boy band” in artist sex, or in musical style. I wouldn’t call them hardcore like an earlier poster, but they are fun rock-n-roll.

Metallica pre-Black album were good examples of metal (Kill em All being the best).

          • A7Xandar says:

i really like the black album, it may not have been all metal, but there are some good thrashers
and master of puppets man! so many good tunes, even thought theres only 8 tracks!

    • Nubnut says:

      Metallica 1982-1990 = Pure metal.

Everything after that? Not so much. And I’m not talking so much about the music as I am about the image (which is what’s being brought up in the picture).

For example, Look at Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth, or Devin Townsend of, well, Devin Townsend. Now that’s what metal should look like, nice down to earth people who don’t give half a damn what you think about them and will do whatever they want to whether you like it or not.

    • triforced says:

      You are all wrong.

Black Sabbath. The founders of metal music.

You show a kid an image of Black Sabbath and that kid would think that they were a bunch of stoner hippies.

      • plasticfroggy says:

        Ahem…

        Steppenwolf.

It’s all there is “Born To Be Wild”:

        I like smoke and lightnin’
        Heavy metal thunder
        Racing in the wind
And the feeling that I’m under

      • mehtallica sucks says:

yep i 2nd motion. the Sabbath is metal; not MEHtallica. they were brilliant when they were relevant, but now they’re a fat, rich, money-hungry corporation.

    • aabbcc says:

Metal is dead! Not because of some dumb boy bands or whatnot, but because of the idiotic ‘fans’ that somehow have the snobbish urge to classify everything! You took the meaning out of Metal a long time ago when it was just loud hard music. Now it is nothing more the a bunch of sissy boys trying act all hard while at the same time falling to elitist segregation and classification of ‘their music’.
You are showing what geek losers you really are underneath all those hipster tattoos.
Now you gone and ruined everything. Pls go over to pop and ruin that. K?Thx!Bye

      • Dragon35 says:

Metal is not dead. It was on it’s deathbed in the 90′s but since has had a great resurgence.

        • A7Xandar says:

heavy music is always going between phases of technical skill Vs. the feel/ groove of a song. the 60s/ 70s was bluesy simple stuff, and some punk, with only a few good metal bands in the late 70s, then you have really technically skilled stuff like malmsteen and EVH in the 80s, as well as underground thrash bands like metallica, slayer, and exodus. then in the 90s, you got altrock, grunge, and numetal stuff, (eg nirvana, disturbed, green day, and slipknot) and it goes back to the feel of the song. even pantera, the one good metal band of the day, were groove oriented (Dimebag is still a damn good guitarist though haha) and now you got “girly and emo” metalcore. i will admit, its not my preference (don’t really like screamed vocals) but ill take “crappy” metalcore over pop any day

  4. w000tz says:

    I love both of them.
I love almost all metal and I love BVB. Seeing them live in a month, march 23th.

  5. Mike says:

I’m a huge metalhead, but seriously, we’re so picky. I mean, look at these comments! “Metallica aren’t metal, they’re thrash metal! Go with Iron Maiden” “No, they’re NWOBHM! Cannibal Corpse is real metal!” Give it a rest already! It’s all metal. Except deathcore/nu-metal :D

    • Blarg says:

exactly. I like metallica, i like korn, and im not afraid to say that i like slipknot. They arent numetal. numetal is crap like limp bizkit.

  6. artemis says:

Who cares? I like BVB. I also like Metallica. What does it matter what you label it so long as you like the music?

    • Balal says:

The problem is that the music of BVB is completely horrible and the band itself is the core of all that is pretentious, commercial and unoriginal. Justin Bieber is less commercial than BVB. Justin Bieber has more balls than the guys in BVB combined. He atleast goes his own road and not just copy BFMV.

    • JD says:

I do too. I don’t see wwhy people get so uptight about music. It is meant to be enjoyed and if someone doesn’t like it they don’t have to listen to it.

      • Tasty says:

Because this is the internet, where people agree with something just because they can. Odds are, 99% of the Metallica haters have never listened to them, and know nothing about them. They just see hating Metallica as the ‘cool thing to do’, so they do.

As for me, I like Metallica, and have no opionion about the other group, as I don’t know who they are.

  7. Max Power says:

    Rockallica is no metal band

  8. KillTheSun says:

With the crap Metallica are playing today, that’s like saying nickelback is an example for rock.

    • gredangeo says:

Actually, when you really listen to some of Nickelback’s heavier songs, They’re more metal sounding than some of 80′s metal and definitely 70′s. Because definitions of what’s heavy been changing. They’re not like AC/DC rock. but overall pretty good. It’s their slow crap I don’t like that’s on the radio all day long. If they only ever wrote the good stuff, many people opinions would’ve been different. It all gets traced back to “how you remind me”. The evil source of their direction.

    • A7Xandar says:

nickelback is rock, you can hate em all day long, but that don’t change the fact that they’re rock. maybe not hard rock, but they aren’t pop, no matter how commercialized they may get.

  9. zack says:

Lol, Metallica sucks, and BVB is meh…

  10. Lemme throw my 2 cents into the metal fire here.., I agree that Sabbath started metal, but to look at metallica and think metal? I did all the way up until they released their ST album… the thrash was gone … you want to talk about metal bands, when someone says to me , hey do you like heavy metal, some of the bands i think of are, and in no particular order, Sabbath, Rainbow (anything with Dio frankly), Def Leppard, Motorhead, Maiden, Priest, and the mention of brit new wave of heavy metal was just that Heavy Metal… you can argue with those bands fitting another genre if you want but you will be wrong…

    • aabbcc says:

They lost it after the Black Album. Sure one or another song was ok, but they went far to mainstream and never could really bring back the authenticity.
Guess they let their money and their housewives get to their music.

    • A7Xandar says:

Motorhead ain’t metal! Lemmy said so!
“We are Motorhead, and we play rock-n-roll!”
      :J

  11. NFSfox says:

*whine whine whine… thisbandisbadbecauseidontlikeitandthereforeitstheultimatetruth… whine whine whine rant rant*

  12. Brioshell says:

Metallica for the fkin win, can’t wait for the concert in Udine

  13. Zack says:

In my opinion, Metallica was metal for their first 4 albums, and since then they’ve become hard-rock, then rock, and now its almost progressive rock. After those four albums they pretty much all around suck.
I think if you want a good example of what is metal today then you need to look at Slipknot, KoRn, and Five Finger Death Punch. That’s where metal is at nowadays.

  14. skyvalr says:

Who put metallica in this picture? Real metal would be like Darkthrone and Possessed.

  15. dissidentaggressor says:

    AND BOTH BANDS SUCKS

  16. trolleela says:

Holy crap, Apparently someone got Vince Noir wet and now there’s a whole litter of him. Please don’t feed him/them after midnight!

  17. Project SKY says:

Who the hell are the emo kids?

  18. ILoveTheMods!!! says:

    Heavy metal = Metal
Thrash metal/Speed metal = Fast metal
    Death metal = dark metal
Brutal metal = hipster emo music
Metalcore = 10+ genres of punk + some meal
Alternative metal = an alternative to metal/mainstream = not metal
Thank you people. You have ruined the metal genre.

  19. BulletB says:

    Dear Memebase,
Stop push BVB towards us… we dont want them either,
    sincerely, Emo kids

  20. Anonymous says:

everyone just gave up on Metallica after one crap album?

  21. DelunaGrl says:

    Lol I don’t give a f**k I like them both!!!

  22. bla says:

hmm, on the left I see a table.. He was very clear about that..

  23. Derpina Trollington says:

I think a lot of the emos like BVB just because Andy’s hot. In all truth though, Andy IS hot.

  24. James C says:

    Metallica, Y U NO Pantera?

  25. none says:

Actually, the one in the middle of BVB is a girl…

  26. says:

It’s not about the sound, really. It’s about how one looks like a rock band, and one looks like gay porn.

  27. Anonymous says:

Black Veil Brides never claimed to be metal. They’re just rock.
Stop hating on them. They’re just five normal guys(well, in that picture four guys plus a girl) doing what they love, which is playing music.
I love this band and their message. Oh, and for the record, the only homosexual in that picture is the girl. And their new drummer is hetero.
If you don’t like them, that’s fine. But don’t harass the people who do like them. Stop being ignorant, and unless YOU can write a better song, sing better, play guitar, violin, bass, or drums better, then just shut your mouth and respect that they have more talent than you. I don’t even hate on Justin Bieber anymore because while I do not like his music, I can’t play guitar or drums, which I’m told he does both. I only play French horn, tin whistle, and ocarina. I may not like him, but I respect the fact that he is better at singing than me. I’ve had no training, and while I’m told I sing very well, I find it hard to keep my notes under control, I’m no good with vibrato, and sometimes I can’t sing high notes.
Live and let live, I always say, but I won’t tolerate unjust harassment.
    Kthxbai.

  28. Mr.Pedia says:

As much as I hate to say this, the beatles started metal WAAAY back with their song “helter skelter.” They then dropped the whole lot, and went on with whatever the bloody well they felt like.

It was later picked up and improved upon by the Sabbath, and metal as a genre was born.

Metalica used to be an excellent example of all that was metal, but they have since become the fodder of meaningless classifications and the butt of many a joke. Whether they deserve this treatment is not my place to say.

In the 90′s metal was on its deathbed. You can blame Grunge and “NU-metal” for that. Strangely enough, it was Power Metal that helped bring metal back into the public forum. Then people got bored with it, and all of these other subgenres of metal emerged, most of which are rather… pretentious, especially in regard to the way their fans perceive other subgenres of metal. Power Metal faded into partial obscurity, but gave birth to both the revival of metal as a genre overall, and the pretentious debates that we hold even to this day about whether or not something is “actually metal.”

  29. bjork says:

Rob is a great bassist and if you don’t agree, go cry about it

  30. three days grace is the best metal band that ever existed.

  31. Britt says:

Dudes come on, metal is metal. there are dozens of sub-genres. in my eye (and this is only my opinion) they are both metal bands in their own ways

  32. SarasGiraffe says:

As Andy Biersack, the lead singer of Black Veil Brides says, “if you judge us be how we look we don’t want you anyway”
80% of these comments that include BVB are just saying they’re homo & look like idiots.
And also, BVB NEVER said they were metal, and their fans think they’re rock, so its only the haters who are saying they’re metal, then hating on their own opinion.
    Yea so shut up.
