  1. LOL_Penguinz says:

the Comic book Geek reminds me of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory for some reason…

  2. annoyedgeek says:

twitards aren’t geeks. They’re not smart or original enough…

  3. Katie says:

Glad to see food geeks are represented!

  4. Pokpok says:

The mentioning of Twilight for the book geek ruins this whole graph…

If there is any series of books that should be associated with geeks, it’s Twilight.

    • Jacqueline says:

I wouldn’t really call this The Evolution of the Geek. I mean really, evolution implies progression. Twilight is progress? Did I miss something?

      • Hecatonchire says:

Evolution is not really about progression, it is just the result of heritable adapted features being selected over time. This doesn’t involves necessarily a progression (tough we can often witness an increasing “complexity”, but that could be argued as well). Nevertheless, I second your argument that Twilight is no progression.

        • neoritter says:

The Programmers under the Internet Geek did not become Apple obsessed morons though… unless they like using Objective-C…

          • JR says:

Maybe everybody should take a step back from the fact that it mentions twilight and that it makes some specific references and look at the big picture. This graph is awesome, it shows the progression of how the world SEES geeks, not just the way geeks have changed. I think it’s funny, but it’s actually pretty cool too.

            • bionelly says:

But, see, we’re geeks. Taking a step back and looking at the big picture is not really what we’re known for. Actually, I think the chart is pretty neat, too, but I enjoy nitpicking too much to not do it just because I like the thing I’m doing it to. ;)

            • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

I cannot simply step back and overlook the fact it referenced Twilight, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings IN THE SAME SENTENCE! How dare they? “How DARE they?” I DEMAND to know! True, Twilight is popular, but it is not something that should be said in the same CONTEXT as Lord of the Rings. And that’s another thing. I don’t think Harry Potter should even be said in the same breath as Lord of the Rings! That series, the aforementioned LOTR is way beyond the possible intellectual level of Twilight readers, and it far surpasses the standards of a lot of Harry Potter readers. The only book I can conceive of mentioning in the same breath is called Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss, and I’m not done reading that one yet.
So, no, since it is not in my nature to step back and see the bigger picture, I cannot. I have too much OCD to, I have to pay attention to detail!

        • David Bofinger says:

Technically, evolution is much more general than this. IIRC, pretty much any continuous process of change. The mutation plus natural selection thing you describe is Darwinian evolution. The word evolution was around long before Darwin.

      • Bergington says:

I’d argue that Twilight is progression.

If by ‘progression’, you mean ‘pile-driving literature into the ground’.

        • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

But that’s not the definition of progress. Progress is becoming better, by definition, not annihilating common sense and literary standards!

  5. Queen Euphearia says:

I was about to applaud this before you put Twitards as geeks.

We are a coveted operation, us Book Geeks – not just anyone can join!

  6. Sarah says:

Okay everyone, which categories do you fit under? I’m a Food Geek and a Video Game Geek.

    • Jakeo says:

Internet, Otaku, Academic, and Music. GOD-DAMN proud of it too. :3

    • Fawfulster says:

I’m all of them except for Otaku, Steve Urkel, Tech Geek, Trekkie, Half-way R.P.G. Geek, Music Geek, and all of the Chik Geek which are plain fcuking bullsiht.

    • Bri says:

Without a doubt a book geek. I am of the sub genre Harry Potter geek, and am insulted to be placed in the same category as those books that shall not be named.

    • Thalia says:

I’m an academic geek, a book geek (specifically Harry Potter), a Star Trek geek, a WoW geek (I don’t play World of Warcraft, but the graph says Sims and MMORPGs count. Then again, it says Twilight counts as book geek, so I’m not actually sure whether or not I fit in this category), a food geek, and a theatre geek. That’s five or six categories – awesome.

    • Sarah101 says:

      Book Geek
      Tech Geek
      Music Geek
      Academic Geek
      :P Go Geeks!

    • bionelly says:

Let’s see, I’m a book geek (I’m just going to pretend that says Discworld instead of Twilight), science geek, slight math geek, film geek, Star Trek geek and TV geek (I know it’s not on there but considering how obsessed I’ve been with certain TV shows I think it still counts.)

I also watch Glee but since I’m not obsessed with it I don’t think I really count as a Glee geek. I mean, I like it, but I’m not all that upset if I miss an episode, and I’ve never joined a fan forum for it or sought out blogs with scene-by-scene analysis of the episodes or stayed up into the wee hours of the morning making a chart of the relationships between the different characters (and yes, I’ve done all that for other shows. That’s why I’m a TV geek even though that isn’t actually an option. :P )

    • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

Book, food, video game, anime, and academic for me. Anyone else?

  7. Charlie says:

Anyone mind telling me what Swedish Fugal Opera is? It sounds… dirty.

  8. whocares says:

uhhhh, the “tech geek” is nothing but a fanboy. this graph is full of fail

  9. Dfrtbx says:

i’m a little offended by being characterized as a “politics geek”

  10. Corusca_Fire says:

Hey, they left out Athleeks! We da best!

  11. feminist academic geek says:

love how all the geeks are men…women have made major entre into the geek world, why leave us out?

    Signed,
    A female math professor

    • Freakie says:

Nah, see the “Geek Chic” category? That’s where you get cross-dressing hipsters who swear they aren’t gay yet wear pants that make it impossible for them to have balls, let alone room for a wang too. I think females are properly represented there.

      • Thalia says:

No we aren’t. You’re insulting gays, hipsters, and women by saying they’re all the same.

        • bionelly says:

Agreed. Not to mention the fact that I’m a lifelong female geek (meaning I was a geek long before “geek chic” even existed), and I fit in many of the categories listed there (and a few that aren’t), but not any of the “geek chic” categories.

      • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

        Ouch.
You have injured every fiber of my being by comparing the female population to the aforementioned “shemale” category. I will now shun everything you have to say.

    • Ihmisen says:

Because if both genders were “equally represented” then one could interpret it to be saying all book geeks are female, all tech geeks are male, etc. Much easier to just have them all the same. And there’s more stigmas to weave around in drawing a chart full of drawings of females.
If it bothers you, though, any of the men on the chart might be women. Then it’s just saying all geeky girls are flat-chested.

      • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

They could have just as easily added, next to the male depictions, a female counterpart. Not hard, and that wouldn’t be as insulting as your comment. Thank you.

    • Zetroc says:

You are a lie. Rule 30: There are NO girls on the internet.

      • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

I am living proof that you are wrong, by the way.

        • Zetroc says:

Rule 30: There are NO girls on the internet. No exeptions.
Rule 331: GIRL = Guy in real Life. No exeptions.

          • bionelly says:

*looks down at real life body* Yep, all the girl parts are there.

*looks over at child produced by real life body* Yep, definitely have all the internal girl parts, too.

Looks like your rules are either outdated or plain wrong.

          • bionelly says:

Also, if you put those two rules together, you get “There are NO Guys In Real Life on the internet. No exceptions.” So, I guess that means you must be female, too?

            • Zetroc says:

But.. But.. There are no women on the internets.. I.. woman? Logic.. reinstalled!.. Rules.. Flawed!.. I am.. female? I.. can not exist.. Self-destruct Initiated.. *Stops Existing*

  12. SPECIALKSYNDROM says:

Dude, you forgot Army geek. YOU FORGOT MEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Enrico says:

I can’t believe D&D is the only RPG mentioned in the graph.
And I can’t believe Twilight is considered a book.

  14. Femanon says:

    =’[
    They forgot band geeks.

  15. Girl on the interwebz OMG says:

I’m a WoW geek and a Video game geek :3 i’m damn proud of it too!

  16. Lol says:

WHO THE HELL LABELLED STARCRAFT II AS AN MMORPG!!!?? IT’S AN RTS!

Yes, I’m a computer game geek.

  17. Fanboy Wife says:

My husband is mostly a comic book geek, with a dash of bands-you’ve-never-heard-of, and a pinch of movie geek.

  18. Sunflash says:

I am proud to call myself a book geek, long live Redwall!

  19. Lord_Voldemort says:

I am honored and proud to be a Book Geek… HARRY POTTER RULES THE WORLD! (and twilight destroys it)

  20. Christopher, the one of many says:

My older brother is a music geek. I’m an internet geek (I’d label myself as tech geek, but my definition of tech geek is different than from what this chart says.

  21. otakukid says:

it BETTER be taken down if it is insulting otakus

    • bionelly says:

It’s only insulting otakus if you think it’s an insult to be called a geek, in which case I’m insulted that you think that.

  22. Freakie says:

So this chart says that Hipsters are the new and cool geeks?

I am pretty sure that is an insult to anyone who actually is a science/technology geek… which is where it started tyvm.

  23. Jake J. says:

Science Geek, Technology Geek (I hate Apple, though), Computer Geek, Video Game Geek, and Design Geek (but not female/stereotypically).

  24. Civer says:

The Chic Geek looks exactly like somkeone i know

  25. Zip Zop Zoobity Bop says:

I’m a nerd, not a geek. BOOK NERD (Discworld above all).

    • TREQ says:

THANK YOU!!!! They are using the term wrong. Here is an example:

      Bill Gates: Nerd
      Napoleon Dinamite: Geek
      Nerds Know Stuff.
      Geeks are just socially awkward…

      • bionelly says:

I have to disagree with you there. Nerds know about real stuff (i.e. math, science, computers, etc.) Geeks know about assorted pop-culture type stuff, like film geeks, comic book geeks, music geeks, and, yes, book geeks. People who are just socially awkward but don’t have any specialized knowledge to show for it are dorks.

So, Bill Gates is a nerd, Zip Zop Zoobity Bop is a geek (judging by what he/she said about Discworld), and Napoleon Dynamite is a dork. I am both a nerd and a geek, but probably more geek than nerd.

      • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

        I, also, have to disagree.
        Nerds are academically inclined.
Geeks are far more fantasy/fiction/ect inclined.

I, therefore, am what I call either a gerd or a neek.

  26. Video game geek says:

I object to starcraft being lumped in with WoW. Starcraft is a fun game you play for awhile then move on. WoW is an unentertaining obsession that consumes your life.

    • Girl on the interwebz OMG says:

I play WoW but i’m not Obsessed, i say you just belive the Steriotypes. Steriotypes are stupid and Starcraft was made by the people who made WoW so it makes sense that it is “Lumped” in with it, now please go away :3 oh and it is not a MMORPG it is a RTS :/

      • Video game geek says:

I never said that all people who play WoW are obessed, just 90% or more of them. I’m saying WoW isn’t a real game. It’s a program designed to create addiction.
No it doesn’t make sense because “it is not a MMORPG it is a RTS”
        Now you go away.

        • Girl on the interwebz OMG says:

I wasn’t saying that it makes sense because “It is not a MMOPRG it is a RTS” and it is a real game, i play it for fun like i do with all other games. Maybe 20% or less are Obsessed but not 90% Anyhow i dislike you, like i dislike all people who have their bad side come out on the internet. But it makes sense it is “Lumped” in with it because World of Warcraft and Starcraft are both made by Blizzard, prove me wrong if you wish but i wont reply or care, i hate fighting on the internet. Have a nice day.

        • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

          You never said that.
          I’m calling you out.

  27. Sean says:

    They forgot Clarinet Geek!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Lauren says:

Hooray for music geeks! The funny part is, I’m going to an opera later this week.

  29. Disgruntled Girl Geek says:

I have been proudly geeky since the 80′s and female my whole life! I would like a list that actually acknowledges the girly geeks.

    • Paul says:

Take the list photoshop them female and go kill your self.

      • BlackHoleGeek(AstronomyFTW) says:

Excuse me? This is a forum for geeks, and a list of things to rant about. YOU, if you have nothing else to say than a very ignorant and obnoxious comment, MAY KILL YOURSELF. Good day, sir.

  30. Taffy says:

So I guess that means I’m a book geek(LoTR), food geek, video game geek, design geek AND a tech geek. (Though I’m not a big Apple fan.)

  31. Karina says:

    Internet, Book, Otaku geek.
    But I’m not a guy.

  32. CoffeeShopFrank says:

The Glee one looks like the hand is coming out of his pants!

  33. tktk123 says:

no writing geeks? art geeks? photography geeks?

  34. Viv says:

Otaku, Tech, Theater and Glee Geek!

But especially Tech and Glee atm.

  35. Block says:

Im more of a video game, trekkie, internet and movie geek.

Im not a fan of comics, manga, or books

  36. marching band girl says:

Seriously, of all the geeks and fake geeks that you list, you forget band geeks??? Come on!!!

  37. Infinite Guy says:

Reminds me of Ogre welcoming the nerds in this Revenge of the Nerds clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3njjD41f48

  38. quixote says:

It could be Taxonomy of Geeks, but it can never be an Evolution. That takes the missing half of the human race.

  39. Zetroc says:

In a graph about Geeks, Lord of the Rings is not mentioned.
    Has the world gone under?

  40. Chocolade says:

I find the definition of Book Geek to be insulting because they put Twilight in it. Narnia, LOTR, Harry Potter, love them and they are good books, but Twilight? It’s an insult to every kind of geek to say Twit-heads are geeks. They are more like girls who never met a real boy, never watched a good romantic movie, got dropped repeatedly on their head when they were babies and have no notion that a crush and real love has as much in common as a garage and a hamburger.

  41. Igetstabby says:

The techie geek are nerds. Napoleon dynamite is a geek, maybe a dork, but that sounds mean, like calling him a jerk.

  42. Ryan says:

And of course band geeks and orch dorks are totally ignored…

  43. LoLa says:

D&D Geeks evolved out of pop culture? What? Also I’d say MMORPG Geeks are more of an amalgam of D&D Geeks and Computer Geeks than anything else.

    Sooo. Yeah. Fail chart.

  44. mko says:

A true tech geek wouldn’t like Apple

  45. Jules says:

    I’m surprised that I’m only a Gleek.

  46. Nhihira says:

Wow I am . . . a lot of these things. LOL Funs.
And the tech geek could have probably been split into two groups, with the PC vs Mac thing, but I think what they’re getting at is that most PC techies are avid about the PC because they are in one of the other groups (programming/internet/video games) where as apple geeks are either apple fans because they are in the creative industry and still under the assumption that Macs are ‘just better(yes they used to be…7 years ago)’ for it, or because they are just apple fans and…well they just are.

  47. ftlulz says:

    Steve Urkel Ubergeek FTW

  48. Onlyhalfgeek says:

Hey You forgot the “Makes graphs and flowcharts for Graphjam Geek” It was quite interesting tho.

  49. Someguy says:

    Brilliant!

  50. Susan says:

Film geek, Book geek, Music geek, and Gleek XD (The Glee geek looks like Artie without a wheelchair)

  51. I'M AN OTAKU!! says:

HAI!!! I’M AN OTAKU!!! I LOOOVVVEEE ANIME!!!!! AND I FREAKING LOVE YAOI!!!! I HAVE ANIME CRUSHES AND AND AND AND I DRAW FAN ART AND WRITE FANFICTION!!!!! I LOOOVVVVEEEE FULLMETAL ALCHIMIST AND OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB!!!! IF I COULD MEET THE CHARACTERS I WOULD GLOMP THEM AND BE A TOTAL FANGIRL!!! IF I EVER MEET VIC MIGNONIA I WOULD ASK HIM TO SAY THE MINISKIRT LINE AND THEN SQUEAL LIKE THE TINY FANGIRLISH OTAKU I FREAKING AM!!!! :D DDDD

  52. TeslaCoilsAndKittehsAreEPIC says:

O.o I do not fit into any of those yet I am the geekiest girl in my school. I fit into a faraway category of geeks that it is a historic moment when a girl finds. Boys are in it a lot, but the category goes often ignored. I fit into geekorama HIGH VOLTAGE GEEEK!!!! O.o and PokéGeek!!! LOL :3 PIKACHI FTW!!!

  53. benhd1 says:
