i’m really getting bored with the homophobic “criticisms” of bieber. yeah, his music sucks. but we can’t just say that can we? no, we have to be bigoted assholes. *sigh*
I agree, I don’t enjoy people comparing my sexuality to something they hate. If he was gay, whatever, no one cares, but hearing people saying something that I don’t like, let alone they don’t like, is gay, annoys me to end.
Oh get over it already. Calling something ‘gay’ is a common term and has little or no reference to the gay community, any more than saying “oh crap” has reference to actual crap. Maybe if you get offended with it as often as you can, people will stop… Or not. Get over yourself.

That is a terrible comparison. Crap, as an expression of dislike, makes sense because people don’t tend to like crap as it is considered repulsive and dirty. Saying that children calling each other and things they don’t like gay as an insult, has no effect on there few of homosexuals, is ignorant, if all your friends at school say “this is so gay” you DO start to build up a homophobic attitude, why do you think it’s so hard for young lgbt people to come out?
Wait, so calling someone gay and then insinuating that they act/appear feminine and therefore “wrong” and suggesting that they are in the closest – NONE of that is in any way related to homosexuality or gay stereotypes? Wow, I had no idea language was so removed from… well, language.
Make a note. Calling someone gay has nothing to do with being gay. It’s an insult because gay is a bad thing, that’s all. Not that being gay is bad, because calling someone gay has nothing to do with being gay. It’s just that sometimes people act gay. Sure, “that’s so gay” is meant to signify that something is negative and/or inherently wrong, but it’s not like you are accusing them of being gay. You’re just saying that they are so gay, that’s all.

Sounds to me like the graph wasn’t making a homophobic remark, but was instead ridiculing Justin Bieber for not being proud of who he is.
no–it’s part of the same narrative that justin bieber sucks because he’s either a). a girl, or b). gay. using both as insults is homophobic. speculating on his gender or sexuality are not valid criticisms of him as an artist. and i have a feeling that making homophobic comments to someone as a way of goading them out of the closet isn’t a good way to get them to come out as gay.
and we wonder why suicide rates among glbt teens are so high…
