The problem lies in gratification and reward systems. Playing a flash game, you get instantly ‘rewarded’ for your efforts when you are successful. The rules are consistent and easy to understand, the rewards are equally consistent and easy to understand.
Most jobs and schoolwork on the other hand have shifting rules systems and spotty reward systems.
My advice is, if studying seems like work, you are studying the wrong things. If you can’t wait to get done with work, pursue a new career doing something that makes you happy, even if it’s digging ditches- all that matters is what kind of fulfillment you get from it.
I’m pretty sure that a steady paycheck is a consistent reward system. Or do you only do volunteer work?
And I /do/ dig ditches among other things as a career. Construction is made of win because in a few decades I can say .. I helped make that .. providing it doesn’t get torn down between now and then
A steady paycheck means nothing when you don’t get fulfillment out of the job.
Totally agree on the construction jobs. The last time I was happy I was elbow deep in helicopter innards with grease and hydraulic fluid soaking my clothing. In the end something worked, it functioned and flew because of me.
The administrative jobs I’ve held since payed way more, but I wasn’t as happy. Money is not as important as fulfillment.
Why should I finish my term paper when I can spend hours on Cheezburger sites? Heck, why should I sleep when there’s enough MLIA on the Internet to choke a horse?
Truth
clearly all work needs to be repackaged in the form of browser flash games. then we’d be the best workers anywhere.
XKCD did this first.
Exactly what Sanna said.

Ooh, this is the last graph I’d imagine someone writing a long, meaningful comment on.

Money is not as important as fulfilment, no. But sometimes you have to bite the bullet to pay your bills until you find the job you WANT
I find most flash games to be tedious and boring as hell. Then again, I find most people are the same way too. They make a nice couple…

If only school and work projects were to beat the flash games.
Lol at the Link in the editor’s comment… Robot Unicorn Attack ftw~!!
