It is because they adapt well to new surroundings, and the Hydra station was partly a DHARMA project for testing animal’s adaptation abilities. They were also used for moving the island, when the island needed to be moved as a “measure of last resorts.” I thought the DHARMA collar on the dead polar bear and Tom referring to the bears living in the cages and the video where Pierre Chang explains the presence of the polar bears and the polar bears was conclusive. Guess not. And, to quote Eko and Locke “Don’t mistake coincidence for fate.”

Well, that’s a hell of an explanation, “it’s cool, they were just there…” I really thought everyone knew what the question was : “why oh why? was there polar bears on this island…” we guessed “how” and we want to know “why”… because I think it is pretty sadistic to bring a polar bear on a tropical island just for fun…
And I’m not sure it’s a dharma thing because it would be a damn coincidence => did you forget the comic?!? Geez! What were the odds?
Sorry but this is not convincing enough and I still think that the polar bear was a total random bullcrap… (just like the show?)

first of all this chart makes no sense

Even as an avid fan of Lost, I kind of have to disagree, because even shows like Law & Order, which wrap up neatly in one hour, have their main characters develop to a certain degree throughout their tenure on the series. I’m mainly referring to Law & Order: SVU, and how the primary detectives have so many issues that provide the motives for the actions they take in each episode. It’s not quite as elaborate as Lost, but I guess they do what they can.

Good question. Although, I have noticed that, of the people I’ve spoken to, many of those that dislike Lost are into shows on FX (Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck) or Showtime (Dexter, Nurse Jackie), which are neither predictable nor cookie-cutter.

This is the epitome of “must-see” TV. Even if you end up hating or feeling indifferent toward it, it’s just one of those things that should be experienced by everyone, like those “1001 albums to hear before you die.” At the very least, if you’re the kind of person that can withstand the task of sticking with a series from beginning to end, you should have no problem getting through this, as each episode compels you to see the next.

It’s far more than just the plot and character depth that propels the series. A lot of it has to do with the numerous underlying themes throughout the show, like the various philosophical views regarding society (season 1), belief/faith (season 2), allegiance/servitude and purpose (season 3), the greater good (season 4), paradigm shifts (season 5), and moral relativism (season 6). Those themes, and many others, cross throughout the entire series, but each season seems to embody those particular themes. This show goes way beyond the surface value of character and plot to reach out to the intellectual and emotional sides of the human mind (with varying degrees of success). I won’t say that the show is perfect, as nothing is, but it’s certainly more significant than virtually any series that has come before it.

Of everything I have read on this page, the claim that LOST has unrealistic characters had to have been the funniest. (and to be honest, the graphs are funny) I have a sense of humor and some of the things made me laugh, but I also find that part of the comedy in the graphs is the fact that someone who doesnt know (or like) LOST took time out of their day to create something to give it more attention.

But seriously? Unrealistic characters? Only a show like LOST or even 24 for example, can even have the ability to write characters like these because the plot is continuous. A continuous plot allows characters to develop far more than when it is a brand new story each week. You may not like the characters, but they go through an individual/personal journey and express the possession of complex feelings, emotions and backstories. But thats not like real life? You relate better to people that are overwhelmingly predictable and enter rooms saying a catchphrase followed by a pause for the laughter and applause?

I’d be very interested in knowing what television shows are considered ‘good’ by the LOST haters on this thread. While I understand that LOST isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I have found that almost all people that don’t like it are prone to either mindless comedy or predictable cookie-cutter programming that is obviously based on a formula. It’s not even that you CAN’T understand it if you wanted to give it a chance, its just that a majority of you haters need your entertainment to be nice and neatly wrapped up in either 30 minutes or a half hour so that it can repeat its formula from a fresh start next week so you dont have to think about anything.

Most networks would balk at the idea of running a program of substance, which requires some attention, because the vast majority of viewers can’t spend more than 3 minutes of time attending to any single thing. I can’t tell you how glad I am that ABC took a chance on this one, and saw it through to the end. Never before have there been so much plot and character depth on television; and never again, I’m afraid. I hate to see it end.

I tried to like it too – but the characters were just too unrealistic (perhaps someone might let the others at the beach know about some of the crap they came across in the jungle, say, like a pirate ship, an airplane, or a smoke monster?), and I quickly found it difficult to care why any of it was happening to any of them.

I laughed at the funny graphs and it is actually quite fitting to have a person who has never watched LOST make them because that’s what most (LOST haters) people’s opinions are based off of…little viewing, more bashing while the hardcore fans lash back ranting about how deep LOST is and then babbling about the story lines and theories that sound like bumblef*ck to all the haters. I find this type of dichotomy just as entertaining as the show itself.

Those of us that like Lost are just saying that an actual fan could make fun of it accurately and not use lazy “jokes” that don’t even make sense if you’ve seen the show.

It’s kind of like when a show or movie makes a lazy reference to Star Wars when they obviously don’t know much about the movies. Whereas with something like Robot Chicken, they are actual fans of Star Wars and thus were able to make fun of it much more effectively and entertainingly.

Lost is so loving overrated as it is. I remember watching season 1 after everyone is raving about how great and amazing it is.

It reeks of typical night time tv. In 20 episodes all you find out is, the korean chick speaks english, the old guy was a cripple, there’s a crazy old hag on the island and some other assorted crap. The rest of the series is just rehashing what you already know.

I’m also a fan. These graphs were worth a little chuckle. Sadly, as with so many “Losties”, they have quickly over-analyzed. I mean give me a break. Calling into question the ratio of sex to total hours of material to show how these guys got it wrong? The funniest part is how many people seem to be offended by the inclusion of sex in the chart. Even if the actual act only occurred a few times, Jack/Kate/Sawyer spent enough time eye-f@#*ing each other to make this chart woefully lacking in the ‘sex’ department.
