Yeah, seriously, who’s Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood? No one remembers them anymore (sarcasm).

The runner ups always become more famous, like David Archuletta and Adam Lambert
There are clearly some exceptions, as the above commenters pointed out.
And Archuleta more famous than Cook? Only in his teenybopper dreams.
Don’t forget Daughtry. He got the best selling rock album in history. He came 4th.
The show has kicked the bucket, now.
The problem is that screaming teenage fangirls are the ones who vote most often (especially after they started allowing vote-by-text-message) and so all the cute, young, (and straight, sorry Adam and possibly Clay Aiken…) males get the most votes, regardless of any actual talent. It’s getting worse each subsequent season, too.
