She turned me into a nute!

  2. Schnuppe says:

In Bavaria the trees are made of wood!

  3. NathanTheTemp says:

    Nothing paradoxical about this.

    • Tom says:

      No, its not.

You burn witches, therefore must either be made of wood, therefore witches must float, therefore the witch must weigh the same as a duck. None can be true without the last. Its non-paradoxical and all relative.

  4. Seagull says:

Gah, people, learn the definition of a paradox! Gah! Who keeps voting this crap up to the front page?

    • Stephen Hawking says:

      Here is a paradox:

A man travels through a wormhole one minute into the last. Through the wormhole, he shoots and kills himself, prior to entering the workhole. So how could he go through the workhole to shoot himself?

      THAT is a paradox.

  5. a constantly changing box says:

This may be because I don’t watch a whole lot of Monty Python… but I don’t get it.

  6. T-Smizz says:

This is crap. According to the movie, everything that weighs the same as a duck is made of wood. That’s why they weighed her against the duck to begin with…to find out if she was made of wood. I like a good Monty Python joke as much as anyone, but this one fails.

  7. Homer says:

This graph really is poorly done. How about we enjoy the original clip?:

  8. RaptorJesusLol says:

Lights out, I hear a Witch..

  9. Craig says:

This is not actually a joke the guys of Monty Python and their writers had to make-up, this was actually thought by many witch-hunters. The “unfailing” logic was that if the woman floated she was a witch, and if she sank and drowned (since most people didn’t know how to swim it was a real possibilitiy) then she was sent to heaven and therefore in a better place.

Also, I rather like the graph:)

    • np says:

True. MP didn’t come up with this on their own. It was based on historical morons. The real joke in the movie is that the woman actually weighs the same as a duck, according to their scale.

    • Shipoopi says:

Yes, it is a joke they had to make up. Hence the wood and the duck. It was based on the old witch-hunting tactic, but that wasn’t the joke. The joke was the logic that they were testing to see if she was made of wood, not whether she could float.

Also, the graph is shite because it’s not a paradox.

Also, the graph is right poo because it’s not a paradox.

  10. Ben says:

‘And what burns apart from Witches?’ ‘Err…. More witches!’

  11. Travis says:

somebody care to explain to me how this is a paradox?

  12. Cyrus says:

‘What else floats in water?’ ‘Very small rocks.’

I watched scene for the first time in my high school physics class because the teacher thought it was hilarious. I must concur.

  13. Vince says:

The important thing people like to forget: she WAS a witch. After the weighing, as she’s led away, you clearly hear her say, “It’s a fair cop.”

  14. STM says:

Not ONLY is this not a paradox in any way, it’s also a complete failure of use of a Venn diagram…

  15. Mad_Hatteress says:

So many things in this are wrong. *Tries to think of something good about it*
At least they spelt paradox right…

  16. Yo says:

    It’s only a model

  17. roger says:

I arrange, design, and sell shrubberies.

  18. Coyotekitty says:

Haha… I broke both my arms a while ago. The doctor said I might have an occult fracture in my left elbow. Naturally I had to weigh it against a duck. It was not made of wood, so luckily we didn’t have to burn my elbow… okay, maybe not really, I hadn’t even seen Monty Python at that time… but it would have been funny!

  19. Allie says:

    ..How is that a paradox?

    • Buttercup says:

That’s what I was wondering… funny diagram but not a paradox. Makes perfect sense to me. Idiot-made graph. :(

  20. matt eff says:

I see a reasonably funny venn diagram but no paradox anywhere… hrmm…

  21. Fire-glass Dragon says:

:| Graph fail. The Holy Grail is my favorite Monty Python movie – just a bit over The Meaning of Life. I’ve even got a shirt that has King Arthur and the Black Knight with no arms or legs. It has the infamous quote “It just a flesh wound”.

  22. The Pure says:

This my favorite movie of all time comedy/drama.sci fi. My favorite. Almost 40 years now. Shot on a budget of 60,000.00 pounds, no one has been able to match it on any level since. So go and boil your bottoms, son of a silly person.
