And honestly, are you using dial-up or something? Even 1080p videos load enough that I can start playing them within a few seconds…(well playing is a relative term. Generally have to switch to 720p cause Flash video fails. Bring on the HTML5 already!)
Are ads really THAT annoying that you’d put more crap on your computer just to block them? I don’t see the benefit of the software to block ads (Or is it a firefox extension/addon?).
But I’m also kind of minimalist that way. I won’t install a piece of software unless I’m absolutely certain that it’s beneits outweigh the clutter. Bloatware has destroyed my computer before, so .. I don’t know. I find ignoring the ads works just as well as having a piece of software block them. Or set your router up to block all traffic from the domain that those ads are served from?
Trust me, adblocker plus for firefox is your friend. Loading ads slows down my computer far more than ABP does. To be honest I haven’t even noticed any slowing at all with ABP. I suppose setting up your router would work as well, but why waste the time maintaining that when you don’t have to? In addition, I’ve seen a lot of complaints about malicious ads that spread malware, so blocking ads and keeping your filters updated is good security.
It seems to me that you don’t know what programs to install. You say that “bloatware” has destroyed your computer. That’s because you are too ‘minimalist’ and you haven’t found the 3 or 4 programs that will stop that junk getting into your computer in the first place, and delete it for you if it does. Furthermore, the good programs are efficient and do not take up noticeable system resources.
A couple of examples: Ccleaner removes junk like internet cache and temp files, and helps you uninstall stuff. You may say that you can do this manually, but Ccleaner does not take up much space, you do not have to have it on in the background, and it can clean things that are risky to fiddle with (for example: the system registry). Not only that, but it’s quicker than finding every temp folder on your system, and I am sure there are some that it reaches that you can’t do manually. I’ve “rescued” computers before with Ccleaner, the difference after running it on an old computer is amazing!
Adblock is superb for use with Firefox, it doesn’t slow anything down as it runs as part of the browser. Indeed, it makes things quicker. Advertisements on webpages take extra time to load (just as this graph highlights), if you don’t load them, you save on bandwidth. You also save on memory – sites with big Flash banners slow down pages considerably. I couldn’t believe how much quicker pages loaded once I’d installed it. Not to mention that some ads are harmful to your computer and give you the ‘ware you don’t want.
I also run Total Commander (it’s an alternative to Windows Explorer, which definitely runs faster, if you move files from one location to another, it’s much faster than Explorer is) – it takes a little time to get used to, but it’s worth it!)
Those are the things that I couldn’t live without, because they make such a difference (I’m assuming you already run Firefox, because it’s a no-brainer, as well as a firewall, and reputable virus and spyware detection) Don’t be afraid to try a few things – just be sure to research them carefully so you don’t get stung by malware in the future.
UGh… I agree and I hate it.
that stinks for you . youtube always loads for me, but without ads cause of ABP
Grease monkey scripts can be good too.
I agree with your post and I hate it.
yep.
Adblock Plus with Firefox or Chrome is your friend. =)
It doesn’t work for me, how do you have to set it up?
ABP for the ads.

Sound’s like someone needs to update their flash.
Really? It never loads at all?
Looks like it’s a consensus — Adblock Plus FTW.

Who sees ads anymore? ABP = awesome
I missed it when YouTube didn’t have those stupid ads before loading the video.
If anyone knows a way to skip the google ads instead of having to wait them out, PLEASE SPEAK UP!!!
Simple: 1) Download Firefox. 2) Download Adblock Plus add-on. 3) Never see an advert ever again!
You forgot the Page Errors Part!
Well yeah obviously it’s going to take longer to download a video than a bunch of pictures. It’s not just another variation of murphy’s law.
ABP
You are forgetting “rick-rolls” those always load perfectly
You forgot ‘This video has been removed due to a copyright claim by Fox’
