Curling is pretty awesome, I wish it were more popular. Also responding to earlier comments, it is definitely as much of a sport as baseball or golf, and I agree that swooping, if that is what it is called, should be an olympic sport too, it would be really awesome.

If Curling gets to be an olympic sport, Skydiving should be too. At least swooping. It’s extremely entertaining, and you can watch the action from the ground. I mean, you can watch the stuff that 4-way teams do and free flying and freestyle flying etc… from the ground, but it’s really really really small. But Canopy Piloting certainly should be an event.

The curling rink here was a ghost town for a long time. Then, Canada won an Olympic Medal in it. The place was booming, for about three months. Then it was a ghost town again.

The title of the graph is misleading, since the entire Y-axis consists of America (at least, that seems to be the intention of the OP).

It’s a fun sport that requires strength and accuracy, it’s inclusive, and it provides a great deal more camaraderie than oh say skiing or skating or hockey. Get on iTunes, look for CBC podcasts (they’re free) and look up “Vinyl Cafe” with Stuart McLean. The February 6th podcast describes Stuart’s introduction to curling. It’s very WAFFy

Bowling is a sport…. Sport does not mean “physically demanding”. By that logic you may as well wipe out diving events in the summer games since there’s no breaking sweat, just accuracy and finesse.

Ok, I’m just going to say it – I think curling should not be an Olympic game. The reason is that it’s not an actual sport – it would be like considering bowling or shuffleboard to be sports. They’re activities, not sports. Yes, many of you enjoy it, and I’m not trying to say anything bad about it, but it’s simply not a sport and the Olympics is meant for sports.

My husband plays in a curling league. We live in Ohio. And no, neither of us are Canadian nor have ever lived there. We love curling, but a lot of people ask my husband “wtf is curling?” when he tells them that’s his hobby. It’s sad, really, because it’s an interesting game!
