Haha anything who really thinks like this chart is gonna get screwed in college. It all depends on what college you go to. A lot of high level colleges upstate are freakin party colleges, I didn’t think they’d be like that xD it’s half and half I’d say, just to be safe.

When I was in hs I thought college was gonna be just sleep, study, sleep, study xD

I took one of the hardest programs in one of the reputably hardest schools in the country. I’m currently working in something utterly irrelevant to my degree because nobody’s hiring in my field.

The scary thing is I’m actually quite enjoying it, and there’s potential for advancement too. So, basically, I wasted four years of my life

It depends greatly on your degree program. Some are easier than others. That said there is a strong (although not direct) correlation between challenge level of the program and marketability of the degree. If its an easy degree, everybody knows it, and you will be respected and paid accordingly. Looking at you elementary ed and MBAs.

I’m sure that many HS students believe that, but based on the depiction of college in comedies aimed at high schoolers, this is probably the idea you’d come away with.
It’s not *that* bad (and I did well), but the first year is tough.
Grad school, though… that’s a different story.

I’m in high school, I always thought of college as a place where you’re more free with your education. like, there’s no “stop eating in class” or “don’t write in blue pen” (these being little things obviously), it’s more like you can do what you want, as long as you get your work done and make sure you’re doing well at whatever you’re doing. i do NOT think college is a place for booze, sex, and parties. It’s a place to learn & have a social life in a more free environment. i think i’m right on this one.

Actually that is fairly true. Part of the importance of the college experience is the social aspect. That doesn’t mean you should go out and party all the time, but if ALL you do is homework and you stay shut in your room, you miss out on connections and experiences that can actually help further your personal growth (and your career) later in life.

You just have to know how to balance it. I mean, get all your homework done but don’t be a shutin and spend all the rest of your time studying. Get out, walk the campus, enjoy life – among other things it’ll prevent some of the burnout that happens when you push yourself too hard.

Agreed on this. Granted that senior year crunch SUCKS no matter how you look at it, unless you didn’t really want to graduate with good marks anyway. Other than that I’d like to think I balanced work and fun pretty well.

Sadly, this isn't just applicable to HS. A convo I overheard involving three (god, I hope they were) freshman at UAlbany in NY: "It's fine to WANT straight A's, but if you spend all your time studying and doing homework you're going to miss college."

4 years for a Bachelors, 6 for a Masters, and that’s assuming you follow their timetable and take all recommended classes EVERY semester.

By the time I’M done, my bachelors will have taken 11-12 years (but I’m a part timer).

4 to 6 years? is that to account for 1 to 3 years of failing? or does it take 4 years get a degree in the US.
3 years here to get your bachelors degree, 4 for bachelors with honours or bachelors with post grad diploma, 5 years for bachelors with masters, 6 years and you walk out with a doctoral degree… or at least you should (and I know people who’ve gone from high school to bachelors to PHD in 4 years… and of course.. a far few who’ve taken a lot lot longer).

If you spend your educational career seeking beer, sex, and parties, then that’s what you’ll find. If you want four gruelling years, you can find that too. The ideal solution lies somewhere in between. so you get decent marks but also have some fond, non-library related memories to look back upon. Your high school guidance counsellor was right. It’s what you make of it.
