I was thinking the same, but I think he poorly tried to contrast how bad really was “Every single time.” That or there is swine flu outbreak on his vacations. lol
Nope — ‘swine flu outbreak’ is a number, meaning ‘a lot.’ That’s why it’s on the y-axis. E.g., “I loved Avatar so much, I saw it swine flu outbreak times!”
This could actually be factual – the x axis is almost directly related to how much new people and places you meet. The more strangers and the more strange places you get to, the bigger the chance that you will encounter a virus or species of bacteria against which you have no immunity.
In class, you always go to the same places and meet the same people, who will really stay home if they are even slightly sick. On the weekends you’re more likely to meet new people, and in the summer even more so. Before concerts you’ll run into hundreds of people, and on holiday you’ll travel to a far place where you’ve never been before.
This graph shows the correlation between the chances of encountering new contagents and getting sick.
It’s science! (only without the hypotheses, measurement, peer review, data collecting and article writing).
Wow, kids still get summer vacation? Us grownups don’t
As for encountering new virii and bacteria, that’s a given, but if you’re getting sick every time you go somewhere new, you’ve probably got a compromised immune system. Your mother should have let you get dirtier as a kid. I have been to a few countries, met a lot of different people, and I haven’t had a cold in years.
Maybe, though, I’m like Mr. Burns: all the germs are so crowded in the doorway that they can’t get through, so I just don’t get sick
Getting sick on vacation ruins everything, especially when it’s over summer break, lol. And, I think that you would also be more likely to get sick during class, because everyone touches everything and coughs and swine flu and grossness and germs and……………
well you get the point
This used to happen to me at the end of work projects. Never sick when I was working 70hrs a week, but sick as soon as it stopped. I think it is because when you have a lot of adrenaline in your system your body does everything it can to keep you healthy (you know, so you can run away from the lion or whatever) and as soon as that adrenaline is gone, the mechanism that kept the germs in check is gone and Whammo! If you then immediately go away to a new place with new germs, even worse…. so what’s the solution. 1) Try to not get quite as run down before vacation so your immune system is stronger. 2) Wash your hands – a lot! and 3) Try to spend one day before vacation eating good foods, and resting a lot so you are in better shape before you leave.
Shouldn’t “Swine Flu Outbreak” be on the X-axis rather than the Y?
Also, if you’re getting sick on vacation all the time, maybe you should be careful what you’re eating and drinking on vacation
