OMG DVRs are so easy they are made to go back in relative time to the speed you’re fast forwarding.
1) press fast forward
2) wait until you see a few seconds of your show
3) press play. voila! you will be right at the transition from commercial break to your favorite episode.
Like ZOMGBBQ, not all DVR’s are the same brand and the crappy one my cable company gave me performs basically like this graph except it needs a slice that says “Entire unit freezes up, must unplug and reset”.

ZOMG!!!
the “Just Right!” part never happens with me :”(
doesn’t happen with tivo!!!!!!!!!!!
Or with FiOS
Ah, cec, you beat me to it! Tivo wins!
I, personally, would make the “Just right” part much, much smaller. Sigh.
I love the Dish DVR…10 secs back and 30 secs forward buttons. I Never have to use fast forward unless I want to go really far forward or backwards.
I loved the Dish DVR. The DirecTV DVR sucks.
Should also include a wedge for “accidentally changed the channel, thus missing half the show you were watching”
Damn thing happens every time I am watching a show that I paused so I could fast forward through commercials.
I was a conservative before it was cool. =P
