I am shocked to hear about the fact that child porn can also be downloaded and is easy to obtain through Limewire. Thankfully this activity is all being monitored by law enforcement.

I stopped using it once I got tired of seeing every single song mislabeled. Not to mention that most of the songs are terrible quality – half of them sound like they were recorded off a stereo with a webcam mic.
I also had a lot of problems with mislabeled songs. It would be the right song, but not by the artist I was looking for. I can’t even begin to tell you how many songs people think Johnny Cash did that weren’t his. Or Joan Jett. Or Brotha Lynch Hung. And so on and so on.
Don’t forget /every/ song with even vaguely funny lyrics being attributed to Weird Al.

I agree. I get a suspect file every once in a while from Limewire, but my antivirus prog catches it right away.

Honestly, if you know what you’re doing and aren’t a moron, you never get viruses from Limewire. I only use it for music and never get any viruses from it at all.

Always used aMule when I used that sort of thing. But now I mainly use torrents because just about the only thing I download is TV episodes and legit software

If you’re stupid enough to download a virus off limewire you deserve it. Just hovering my mouse pointer over something to see the information of the file (I only use it for music) roots out the viruses.

Just kidding, I know there’s decent stuff for a Mac. But for everyone who thinks BSD-based systems are virus-proof ..? They aren’t. They just have different security holes and since only like 5-10% of the computing done is on Mac there’s really no reason to write a virus for it. You don’t have a large enough target to make it worthwhile.
Say something like 20% of all computer users are dumb enough to let a virus walk in and run rampant on their system .. you’re looking at like 20% of 5-10% so 1-2% of all computers users would be affected by a Mac virus? And I’m just pulling those numbers out of thin air for the sake of argument. The point is that you’re looking at a fraction of a fraction of computer users that you could possibly hit with a virus that would be a pain in the ass to write in the first place.
So it isn’t that Macs are superior so much as they just aren’t worth the effort.

Limewire? srsly? It sucks so bad, I call it lamewire. It connects to the gnutella network as I recall. Which would be a good point because it’s one network they’ll never shut down. Except it’s so outdated, it’s way behind other protocols and way less effective.
eMule, on the other hand… now there’s a file sharing system I like. It connects to the ED2K/Kademlia network, and uses a weird proto-torrent-like method, and it works quite well. I use it to download porn, nothing else. It has all sorts of weird stuff regular torrent sites don’t often carry… As far as viruses go, if you use simple common sense and possibly an antivirus, you’ll be safe, most of the time.
Are other people just idiots when they use LimeWire or something? I use it for music whenever I just want a single song and not a whole album, since it’s far faster than torrenting, and I’ve never ever gotten a virus on a computer I’ve used it on. Do you people just not understand basic security and safety when you use these programs or what?
I use limewire specifically for downloading the latest & greatest malware for study.
