A little old I know, but, “spelt” is correct. I dislike hearing “spelled” just as I dislike hearing “burned”, “dreamed” because I’m using the having the ‘t’ instead of ‘ed’ as is custom here in Australia for *some* words.

Anyway, this graph is so right. I’m part of the green section unless it’s like “omg di u here da nu guii iz hawt?” then I just think “Haha. They’re stupid.”

lol loving it! It is pretty impressive some of the time. But in instances (like with my situation now) when people are commenting from work they might not necisarily have spellcheckers in the browser that they are using. And I sure as hell know that I can’t be arsed to put it into word to check first Also, we lost to the french not you guys during the revolution (be interesting to see what rants that one starts)

Actually, I also have dyslexia and do editing, proofing and tutoring, so I very much agree with you. But I also don’t think American English has diverged much more than Aussie or Indian…except for that whole ‘u’ thing, but that’s just because we’re more efficient.

What’s really annoying is that most people can use a browser with spellcheck, which will allow you to simply right click the misspelled (sorry, misspelt) word and fix it. (Is ‘misspelt’ not allowed? I don’t have English on my spellcheck. )

More people should care about the inability of most Americans to form a complete sentence, which is correct in both grammar and punctuation.
The ones that don’t care are presenting themselves as ignorant and stupid. If they don’t care that they appear retarded, then that’s fine, sad but fine. I reserve the right to make fun of them as much and for as long as I want.

I’m a proofreader, so it’s kind of in my nature to comment on typos. Ironically, I have dylexia. This makes me infuriated when people use it as an excuse for their own crap writing caused by sheer laziness.
