  1. Blah says:

Oh when my car didnt had the heater broken…. Good times!

    • TPSReporter says:

Most cars don’t take that long to warm up, but if you look at the average commute time as compared to the warm up time…this is pretty accurate. For a Neon or other small compact car…there also is no sense in letting it warm up either since the idle is so low!

At least it isn’t this cold! OUCH!

  2. Yup Yup says:

You must have a Dodge Neon… those cars take forever to warm up

    • dude says:

you must have a dodge neon!

      • yeah... says:

at least a neon is a cheap car, I had a 2001 grand Cherokee limited edition that took half an hour to warm up, and it never really got warm, just kinda less cold. And a couple of my friends said the same thing about theirs. Mine is(was) in colorado and my friends were from upstate new york

  3. papajon0s1 says:

Despite what the eco-nutbagery elitists say, you can warm up your car for a bit. Although I read some cities are trying to make that a citation! You know what, I live in Wisconsin… WISCONSIN!!!! They can all kiss my hairy butt!

    • Zoid says:

      Wisconsin isn’t THAT bad.

      • papajon0s1 says:

Apparently being born, raised, and living in Wisconsin for over 4 decades isn’t quite enough time to really get the hang of the climate… I’ll get back to you when I’m here for more than a half century… maybe that will be the year I “finally” get it. Maybe below zero temps aren’t at all what I thought they were.

        • Zoid says:

Or maybe you’re just really sensitive. I’ve spent a lot of time in Wisconsin too (not over 4 decades; I’m not that old), and I wouldn’t say that it’s not cold, but I don’t think it’s cold enough to need to preheat my car.

And, I would certainly argue that it’s MUCH colder in other places. I just think it’s silly when people go “I live in Wisconsin! It’s so much colder here! You don’t know what it’s like!”

  4. feistycat says:

Years ago I had a car that took at least 1/2 an hour to warm up. To this day, sometimes it doesn’t occur to me to turn the heat on.

  5. Mr. Poland says:

That Y-axis is kinda screwy… go straight from frostbite to warm air?

  6. Momcat says:

I had a 1976 Plymouth wagon. Yeh I’m older. . . Had no heater. those were the days.

  7. ryan says:

wish i had your commute, cold as it may be

  8. Onion says:

How is “frostbite sets in” a warmer condition than “numbness in extremities”?

  9. McBob says:

If you car is just heating up by the time you get there you live too close to work to warrant driving.

  10. Ping says:

Would have rated a 10/10 if it had gone a little further to a sudden drop as you open the door to get out. Or something. Anyway. This was my morning. So lame.

  11. Amy says:

    @ Trt:

Yeah, you have issues. I seen you put the comment on several people’s comments. Perhaps you should get life so that YOU will have a life story! Quit agitating people for the hell of it. Geez..

  12. TheRealWazzar says:

Here in Australia, I have the opposite issue. By the time the aircon kicks in, I’m almost there :P

    • Peace says:

We live in (oh so nice but oh so weather-stubborn) Texas, so in the winter, the heater takes forever to turn on, and in the summer, the heater miraculously works, but the A/C won’t.

  13. SonicGTR says:

I never have to use the heater because I live in San Diego.

The only seasons we have here is Spring and Fire.

  14. humor me says:

I live 15 minutes from work which is precisely how long it takes for my car to warm up. crap.

    • rob says:

It takes me about 15 minutes to get to work. The temp is about 27F when I get in the car. Although I can start to feel warm air, if I put my hand right up to the vent, after just a few minutes, the warm air does not really make an impact on the comfort level of the inside of the car until about 10 minutes. After 15 minutes it is at the point where I can then feel steady hot air out of the vent and I start feeling really warm and cozy. However, I can’t enjoy it because by that point I have just parked the car and it is time to get out into the 27F cold AND head in to start my work day.

    • Lianne says:

Ditto. I have a little more time on the way home for warm-up, since traffic seems to be a little worse when I am leaving work than when I’m going in in the morning.

  15. Zib says:

    Low on radiator fluid?

  16. RobbinWilliams says:

interesting fact… of the 17 or so known species of penguin, only about 4 of them or so are considered arctic climate birds. most actually would not survive in anything outside of the normal temperature range of other birds, and often is the case, even hotter. (i.e. – the Galapagos…)

    solid graph though. =D

    • Ferdbags says:

I really don’t think we need to be THAT accurate. “A considered to be arctic climate Penguin would be right at home” wouldn’t look to good on a graph I feel.

  17. Rachel says:

I experienced this situation earlier around 9:30AM today.

  18. JDamien says:

    Parkin’ G-Car.

    Yeah.
