People will stop and stare even if you’re in a minor car accident.
What really sucks is when it’s an accident on the highway, because then the 65+ MPH traffic is now at 1MPH.
And what sucks even worse is if it’s 1MPH on the OPPOSITE side of the highway because people are trying to see what’s going on, but on the side WITH the accident traffic is moving fine because people can see that nothing really happened.
What a great society we live in.
I’m always amazed that “rubbernecking” can measurably disrupt the flow of traffic in the opposite lane. What is wrong with people?

I had a crash the other day, we were standing on the side of the road and I could see all the traffic building up just from people staring

I usually pray for them.
I glad that I can join that group of people we do pray for those who have accidents. But if I can, I stop and call 911 also.

you are legally required to slow down at the scene of an accident so as not to present unnecessary risk to authorities/emergency response workers.
Yes, that’s true, but not all the time. Around here in the mountains, cops will actually wave people by because if you slow down too much on a switch back, you can actually get in more accidents from people rear-ending you around the blind turns, and then you actually put the emergency response people in more danger from a swerving or hit car. That’s not even factoring in the semis that already have difficulty coming down a mountain pass. Those can actually run over you if you’ve slowed down.
The only people who slow down for an accident at this altitude are tourists.
