Man, I end up wanting to be killed an hour in!
Why wait that long?
I always feel like I should Give Monopoly A Chance. Or a Community Chest, whatever.
ya, who plays an 8 hour monopoly game? 4 hours, really? 2 hours is pushin it even!
I am WAY too competitive for it to be boring.
I usually want to kill the OTHER players after a while.

That’s usually what happens if you start playing monopoly at 9pm… and then stay up until 5am still playing.
I noticed this, who starts monopoly at 9PM?
My brothers and I started a game around 11. We played until 1:35 and then the boys did the math, declared I had won, and one went off to his room, the other stayed in the room to tend the fire.
In my family we always called it Monotony. My sister and I always stole the money, put it in our little purses and played “shopping”.
Looks like someone hasn’t figured out that if you make free parking a spot where you get money the game never ends.
Unless the same lucky bastard keeps landing on it and using the money to buy hotels to rob everyone else with. Then it ends faster.
We just play for an hour or so, write down where everybody is and who’s turn is next and bag up all our properties and money to continue the game another day… It works great!
That’s what we do… I started a game of Monopoly with my sister the last time I was home… maybe we’ll finish it over Christmas
Yeahhhhhhhh…. give me about 20 minutes of monopoly and I no longer want to live… 20 minutes tops.

I never personally get board of monopoly I can play for hours, really, I can.
More than 8, once it gets to 14 then I start getting a bit anxious XD, but when I play it rarely goes for over 3 hours, I gamble to much.(i’ve only played twice to where it’s gotten over 13 hours)
Uhm…you don’t have to play that long…buy and trade until you have a corner, preferably around the jail. After you have that, it’s a simple matter to buy houses and create a complete deathtrap. My games usually don’t last another hour after I get the corner.
the only problem with that is that everybody does it, and you end up taking turns being nearly bankrupt. what you really want is the railroads.

Haha…we don’t even count the money. We just declare a winner. Although if we want to make the person feel as though they’ve accomplished something we’ll make horrible trades so everyone but the “winner” becomes bankrupt. It’s a finely honed system in my family.

If you didn’t want to be playing Monopoly at 3am, why would you start a game at 9pm?
I have played a week long game. we had enough people for all the pieces and all of them where vicious!
Most games should take about 2 hours if you are playing it right. The thing is people don’t actually read all the rules and that’s what causes marathon games.
For example, if you land on a property and decide not to buy it, then that property immediately goes up for auction and everyone has a chance to buy it right then if they bid the highest. Bidding starts at zero, so if no one else wants it, you could get a property for free. But most people don’t know that.
I so loved the “Why does the banker have more 100s?”
Something to consider if you ever find yourself wanting to play Monopoly: think of the last time you played Monopoly. Were you happier after you played than you were before you began?
When I was a kid we just played timed games – Mom would set the kitchen timer and we’d count our money after it dinged. Probably saved a lot of hatred of Monopoly on our part.
Monopoly only takes that long if you’re doing it wrong. A normal 4 player game of monopoly takes like 60 minutes, 90 max. If you use house rules that break the game (a la money on free parking) then the game’s economy doesn’t constrict properly and it drags on forever until someone gets a huge lucky streak or everyone gives up. Settlers of Catan is a better game, but I still like a good game of monopoly, assuming no retarded house rules.
You should have done “down down down then straight up when everyone takes it really seriously and you take a gamble, then down again when this gamble inevitable doesn’t pay off”.
if you’ve played monopoly for 4 consecutive hours you’re a degenerate loser. Don’t even get me started on 8 hr board games

Also, I’ve never played a game longer than 2 hours. Mostly because I always get the orange properties. :3
