This would be funny if the grammar were correct. It should read, “10 items or FEWER”!!!

AGGHHHH!!!

You wouldn’t say “She weighs fewer than I do.” So don’t say “10 items or less”. They are NOT interchangeable!

As a cashier at a grocery store I noticed that they forgot “WIC” for which the items much be checked that they match the ticket (they rarely do and then we stand around why they get the right item), the beginning and ending date much be typed into the computer, the customer much sign, and today’s date, quantity of each item, and total cost much be written on the ticket, and the ticket printed on buy the computer

I have to say something. WHO CARES??? I mean really? Its a gag site with goofiness abounding. Does your life REALLY teeter on the precipice of disaster thinking that there MIGHT be a spelling error on the friggin internet? I bet you drive by gas station signs and straighten all the letters after hours don’t you? You bring a dictionary to spell check every label at the grocery store, yell at your kids for using “Orly” instead of “Oh really”. People, for the love of the internetz give me a break.

Oh, that’s nice! We can do that sort of thing for rain checks, but for cigarettes either a cashier or a bagger who’s over 18 has to go get them and bring them to the register to be scanned. It doesn’t bother me so much when they tell me about it at the beginning of their order because, like I said, then I can save some time by having a bagger get them while I’m scanning their other stuff. When they wait until everything else is done to tell me it gets a little irritating, though, especially when there’s a long line waiting behind them.

Then I suppose I should feel somewhat grateful for my store’s system. We call the customer service desk (press ’0′ and it rings straight through) and tell them. Then the customer goes and picks them up.

Also cigarettes, which for some reason they never bother to mention until after you’ve already scanned everything else in their order, so you can’t even have a bagger get them while you’re scanning to cut down on the time.

There are also the old ladies who can’t be inconvienced to actually go to the pharmacy and get their meds. Instead they demand that the one cashier in this lane go get it for them.

And checks. Here that is a never fail.

Yeah, the store where I work only lets you use the quantity button for produce and some of the bakery items. I’ve never had anyone try to buy $50 worth of Kool-Aid, but I did have someone buy over 500 candy bars once. It took absolutely forever, especially since our registers start to lag once you have more then 200 items in one order.

I’m always wary of doing this, and usually have close to the limit for items, so I always count them again and check the sign. I figured it was kind of silly to do (who would care? and I was a cashier at a grocery store too).
Then one time I had 12 items in a 12-items-or-fewer (yeah, “fewer,” at TJs) line, and two older persons behind me were convinced I had more. They didn’t directly talk to me, but loudly about me, and proceeded to count my items slowly (“I DON’T KNOW, MITCH, LET’S SEE HOW MANY SHE HAS. ONE… TWO…”). They were quite deflated when it came out to twelve :/ Pissed off the cashier too.

The last two stores I work/ed at, had different rules for the quantity button. The first would only let you use the quantity button if you had 25 or more of the same item. The second, where I currently work, you can only use the quantity button for produce and garden center. Which made for a fun day when the guy came through with $50 dollars worth of Kool-Aid.

Unless it’s a register that can X100 (or whatever number). Most can X by the same item if you need them to.

But some stores insist the cashier scan every item.

One grocery store has 10 items and the other has 15. One time i accidentally went to the 10 item one with about 15 and I got major attitude from the lady. Meanwhile I see people with 30 items going through all the time.

I am a cashier in. When I work express it is ‘about 15′. It doesn’t bother me when they have even 18 items. It bothers me when they bring 25 items into my lane, or must debate the cost of every single items.
Also, if they push the cart to far forward for me to put bags in without twisting, I have stopped putting the bags in. Make the customer do it. And I could really go on, but it would take up so much space.

This graph is chock full of truth, seems to me the express lane sign should read “70 IQ points or fewer” as that would more accurately describe the people in front of me who can’t grasp the concept of “EXPRESS LANE”
