I agree. There also needs to be an “I don’t have insurance” column with the a-hole meter all the way up. Can’t tell you how many times a POS that is more Bondo and primer than car has cut me off or quickly tried to turn left before I can make it across the intersection (Word to the wise: I have a large engine in my truck and better acceleration than my wife’s sports car… your POS Mitsubishi won’t make it in time.)

OMG, definately. There are SO many civics like that in my area, (aka. the ass end of nowhere as far east in Canada as you can get) and cavaliers. People souping up cavaliers and putting chips in them and thinking they’re so much better than everyone else. I’m a girl mechanic and drive a V8 dodge truck and had a girl i work with at my other job try to start an arguement about how much better and faster her cavalier was. lol. I smoked her on the highway after work.

I live in the Seattle area with Boeing and Microsoft, and I can attest to the fact that this graph is backwards.

This graph is 100% true. At least where I live in SoCal. If I see a Mercedes or BMW or Lexus, I *know* they’re going to cut me off, run red lights, ignore the fact that I have the right of way, etc, etc.

It’s not a matter of driving fast, some of them drive slow, but they drive like *assholes*. They’re obviously convinced that because they’re stupidly rich everyone else should get out of their way.

Spot on. Actually, this graph should look like Verizon”V”. People with cheap scratched up second-hand tend to drive like assholes because they don’t give a damn, people with cars between 10K and 30K are usually the ones that can’t really afford another car and have nothing to show off…. so they tend to drive more carefully. After that – it starts going up, as every other Beemer driver around here thinks he’s the SH!T and is more important than the rest of us…

If you’re not as competent a driver as me, then it’s not my fault.
If you can’t maneuver your way out of slow grannies/women/etc blocking the lanes, and I can… it’s not my fault.
Just b/c your driving capability is not as good as some others, does not make them a-holes. Ok. Thank you.

gotta agree with pable on that.
unfortunately i have a camaro, and for them that means on of two things (from my experience)
-flirt with the chick in the camaro at the stoplight by pulling up next to her and reving your engine really loud, spinning their tires, ect.
OR
-rev their engine really loud, spin their tires, ect. when they zoom by then slow down and do it again.

if i ever see one of these idiots blow his engine in the process, i would point and laugh as i drove by.

And the ones in the really cheap cars, that do have insurance, only have liability, and are hoping someone hits them in a manner that SEEMS like it was the other’s fault, in order to get a new car.

Note: Some states don’t assign Driver 1 as the party at fault for an accident – Kentucky, for example – which can cause all sorts of grief with multi-state insurance companies that expect it to be that way. I have literally seen COIN FLIPS at accident scenes, to see who gets in the first driver slot. The only times fault is ever put down on such forms is when intoxicants are involved, or one driver doesn’t have insurance – in which case all drivers in one or both conditions are considered at fault (by law) – even if they were sitting still at a stoplight and rear ended at 80 MPH, sitting next to a cop.

The axes should be reversed, and the graph V-shaped. The worst drivers I’ve seen are either in cars under $5k value, over over $50k. The ones in the middle, probably would have 2 times their yearly income tied up in their car, and would probably be out 3-12 months of income just covering the difference between the insurance check and a new car, so are a LOT more careful.

Bwaahahhah. A few months back, I had an epiphany. I drive a 2001 Civic. Its cheaper than most cars on the road by a large margin. If anybody wants to try and cut me off, tailgate me, or otherwise engage in dangerous behavior, I look at how expensive their car is. Eurotrash, convertibles, and otherwise expensive vehicles, I just let bang into me. I have faith in the combination of seatbelts and airbags at all but very high speeds.

What I’ve seen in the Bay Area is size-of-way – the bigger the vehicle the less careful the driver. This is my observation after going from a 1989 Integra to a 2000 Subaru Outback to a 2006 Honda Odyssey. I got used to people trying to run over the Integra, but I noticed they didn’t as much with the Outback, and it hasn’t happened at all with the Odyssey. Some people should be forced to drive very small fragile cars, I think.

According to the comments, this graph may be accurate or not by region. I live in Los Angeles, and this graph is pretty accurate. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a BMW go 60 in a 35 zone.
@bottobot: I agree. Most of the people going 60 in a 35 zone are intelligence-lacking rich high schoolers who play their music for the whole block to hear. Sad thing is, a lot of these imbeciles go to my school.

I agree that this graph is backwards. Usually people with expensive cars are too old to drive aggressive. Also, they are more likely to avoid an accident. I dont think i have ever seen anyone driving a porsche or ferarri cutting people off at 100mph. I do agree that the asshole level is higher when driving a more expensive car but not necessarily more agressive.

However, people with cheap cars can care less if they get a few dings. Also, these drivers tend to be younger and more fearless.

In my experience, It depends on the brand. Hondas are typically decent, with me being the exception. I’m much too impatient, but I like to get places quickly as to enjoy my time there more. Lexus’ are assholes who, whether going fast or slow, cut people off and ignore other people turn signals and block people’s way. Mercedes can be just as bad, but tend to be faster. Acuras are safe drivers. Land Rovers and Jeeps are mildly asinine. Trucks, particularly big trucks, are also really bad. Especially when you drive a minivan. Big trucks feel like being passed by a minivan is a punch in the ego. And they will ride my ass, and do they’re best to pass me, or do they’re best to keep me from passing despite the fact I’m going much faster. But truely. Lexus’ are the worst. I hate Lexus drivers. Even when I’m at work, the Lexus drivers are the most asinine to serve. I want to punch them in the face.

I would have to agree with this graph. When I was driving my old Honda, I was the one doing the speed limit and obeying every traffic law for fear I would have to replace a part. If anything happened to it, it would cost more to replace than it was worth. I can’t tell you how many times I was tail-”gatored” by luxury SUV’s and large trucks that wanted to speed past me in the dark on twisting and wooded roads where the deer population was high because I was being cautious. FINE! You hit a moose! It won’t kill you, but I’d most likely be damaged for life if I hit it. Now BACK OFF!

In my experience its the people with the cheap cars who dont care, because if they scratch or ruin their car they dont care because its a pile. People with nice cars want to keep them nice.
