Wasn’t the actual breakfast of champions from the novel a dirty martini or the like? It was something with booze in it. That being the case, the only legitimate use for this expression should be saved as either an excuse or an admonition for drinking early in the morning.

actually, it also needs a wedge for mocking a meal that you are personally eating. I’ve actually heard more people make that joke about their own first meal of the day, than about others’ meals.

My personal ones that people would label as BoC -
I grew up either eating a plate of french fries, or a Totino’s Pizza, for breakfast (right out of the oven, not cold pizza – in fact sometimes I’d burn my mouth wolfing it down before the school bus got there) – and I still do, if lacking in normal breakfast foods, while having the other items on hand.
