I think it’s just that Christians listen to lyrics like this in a different way. “getting on my knees” is used VERY often as a reference to prayer, so that’s the first thing we think of. People who don’t pray wouldn’t think of prayer right off the bat at that statement. Am I making sense? LoL

Besides, I’ve never thought of this as a Christian song anyway.

Because last time I checked, it seemed to make more sense than Atheism.

For example: Suppose you take all the parts to make a watch and place them in a bag. Now imagine that you seal it and shake the bag for several hours, maybe even days. Do you think what you will get out of the bag will be a perfectly functioning watch? Gears, batteries, arms, and everything in its exact place?

Now, if you haven’t figured out where I’m going with this, let me explain this metaphor.

Our planet is the perfect distance from the Sun. It has vegetation and water galore. It has just enough oxygen in the air so that we don’t cause an explosion every time we light a match. It has a thick atmosphere to protect the Earth from the Sun’s harmful rays. Its gravity is just right so that we can neither float nor be crushed by it. NO OTHER PLANET has these ridiculously precise necessities to sustaining life. Earth does.

Is that “though-stifling” enough?

As for your last comment, I’ve never heard anyone say anything so utterly malicious and disgusting. I know many kind, decent non-believers, and I am sure that you are not one of them. I pray that you are at least changed in the way you see other people, before your own hatred destroys you.

Now fast forward. Think of all the hospitals that were built by Catholics in the U.S. and all over the world. How many St. ____’s hospitals have you heard of? Chances are, some of you were born in one. The Catholics are also responsible for providing education [reading, writing, arithmetic, etc.] to many, many people. Look at the Wikipedia article about the Catholic Church, it says “Presently, the Church operates the world’s largest non-governmental educational and school system.” There is citation provided there too. Wikipedia also says “As part of its ministry of charity, the Church runs Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, Caritas Internationalis, the St. Vincent dePaul Society, Marriage Encounter, Catholic schools, universities, hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes, homeless shelters and ministries to the poor, as well as ministries to families, pregnant women, abused or “battered” women, the elderly, AIDS victims, and the marginalized.” Think of all the Christian missions around the world who bring food, shelter, and medical aid to those in need. My own parents have been involved in these; my dad just got back from the Amazon where he was building water purification systems for the people there, and his friend was doing surgeries for those who needed medical attention. There are too many Catholic and Protestant charities in Africa for me to list here. In my neck of the woods there is an organization called Casas por Cristo, where everyone puts together money to build houses in Mexico, mostly in Acuna which is one of the poorer cities in Mexico. I’ve worked in Acuna myself, the Christians put a lot of effort there to help those in need. Pregnancy centers are run by Christians and Catholics all over the world, run completely on volunteers and donations, to bring help women who are pregnant and cannot afford to provide for themselves.

Even in the secular charity organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, you will find that a lot of the people involved in these are church groups who sign up to build a house, etc.

I am not going to deny that bad things have been done in Jesus’ name. The Inquisition and the Crusades and some of the crap during the Middle Ages definitely put a dark spot on our record. But to do as reasonkillsfaith does, and focus so much on the “bad” that he ignores the “good,” saying that the church contributes nothing to society, is just as bad if not worse than focusing all on the good and not acknowledging the bad.

And as far as why jbmorgan86 works in a church, it sounds like he is a Christian who doesn’t happen to like most modern Christian music. He has already said many times that he likes some Christian music, just not the stuff that’s generally played in his workplace. Why does having a different taste in music mean he’s somehow unfit to work in a church?
