"All Around Me" ~ Flyleaf Email Print

FLYLEAF LYRICS

Send "All Around Me" Ringtone to your Cell

"All Around Me"

My hands are searching for you
My arms are outstretched towards you
I feel you on my fingertips
My tongue dances behind my lips for you

This fire rising through my being
Burning I'm not used to seeing you

I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

My hands float up above me
And you whisper you love me
And I begin to fade
Into our secret place

The music makes me sway
The angels singing say we are alone with you
I am alone and they are too with you

I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

And so I cry
The light is white
And I see you

I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

Take my hand
I give it to you
Now you own me
All I am
You said you would never leave me
I believe you
I believe

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling

Because it couldn't possibly be a reference to prayer. *eyeroll*

I think it's just that Christians listen to lyrics like this in a different way. "getting on my knees" is used VERY often as a reference to prayer, so that's the first thing we think of. People who don't pray wouldn't think of prayer right off the bat at that statement. Am I making sense? LoL

Oh really? (No, not "O rly".)

Because last time I checked, it seemed to make more sense than Atheism.

For example: Suppose you take all the parts to make a watch and place them in a bag. Now imagine that you seal it and shake the bag for several hours, maybe even days. Do you think what you will get out of the bag will be a perfectly functioning watch? Gears, batteries, arms, and everything in its exact place?

Now, if you haven't figured out where I'm going with this, let me explain this metaphor.

Our planet is the perfect distance from the Sun. It has vegetation and water galore. It has just enough oxygen in the air so that we don't cause an explosion every time we light a match. It has a thick atmosphere to protect the Earth from the Sun's harmful rays. Its gravity is just right so that we can neither float nor be crushed by it. NO OTHER PLANET has these ridiculously precise necessities to sustaining life. Earth does.

Is that "though-stifling" enough?

I'm sorry that you react so adversely to the truth. I will be praying for you.

The only thing you have provided on your own behalf is that you think my beliefs sound "less silly" than your own. So many atheists use words like "magical" and "spaghetti monster" to try and skew things in their own direction. I mean honestly, doesn't it seem odd to you that even evolution has such an incredible sense of direction, that so many species have so marvelously adapted to each of their environments? Can natural selection really account for this? And what of the wonder of human consciousness? No atheist has ever provided a very good explanation for this, except to simply deny that it really exists, and that it is just perception. There are also too many aspects of our humanity that would in my opinion suggest a designer/creator. My point is, your view very well may be true, but given the circumstances and our current knowledge it is still not altogether unreasonable or improbable that God exists. A secular view is not as obvious and apparent as you may think.

We'll start with the early church. Around A.D. 130, a Roman [secular] letter to Diognetus quoted about the Christians: "They obey the prescribed laws, and at the same time, they surpass the laws by their lives. They love all men but are persecuted by all... They are poor, yet they make many rich... And those who hate them are unable to give any reason for their hatred." In the third century plagues were sweeping across Rome and other parts of Europe; the Christians were the only ones who would care for the sick at their own risk, while most people were throwing the infected members of their household into the streets. In many pagan societies when a person had an unfavorable child, they would simply leave it outside their house to die, and be picked up with the morning trash. The Christians would go and take these unwanted children and care for and raise them.

Now fast forward. Think of all the hospitals that were built by Catholics in the U.S. and all over the world. How many St. ____'s hospitals have you heard of? Chances are, some of you were born in one. The Catholics are also responsible for providing education [reading, writing, arithmetic, etc.] to many, many people. Look at the Wikipedia article about the Catholic Church, it says "Presently, the Church operates the world's largest non-governmental educational and school system." There is citation provided there too. Wikipedia also says "As part of its ministry of charity, the Church runs Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, Caritas Internationalis, the St. Vincent dePaul Society, Marriage Encounter, Catholic schools, universities, hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes, homeless shelters and ministries to the poor, as well as ministries to families, pregnant women, abused or "battered" women, the elderly, AIDS victims, and the marginalized." Think of all the Christian missions around the world who bring food, shelter, and medical aid to those in need. My own parents have been involved in these; my dad just got back from the Amazon where he was building water purification systems for the people there, and his friend was doing surgeries for those who needed medical attention. There are too many Catholic and Protestant charities in Africa for me to list here. In my neck of the woods there is an organization called Casas por Cristo, where everyone puts together money to build houses in Mexico, mostly in Acuna which is one of the poorer cities in Mexico. I've worked in Acuna myself, the Christians put a lot of effort there to help those in need. Pregnancy centers are run by Christians and Catholics all over the world, run completely on volunteers and donations, to bring help women who are pregnant and cannot afford to provide for themselves.

Even in the secular charity organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, you will find that a lot of the people involved in these are church groups who sign up to build a house, etc.

I am not going to deny that bad things have been done in Jesus' name. The Inquisition and the Crusades and some of the crap during the Middle Ages definitely put a dark spot on our record. But to do as reasonkillsfaith does, and focus so much on the "bad" that he ignores the "good," saying that the church contributes nothing to society, is just as bad if not worse than focusing all on the good and not acknowledging the bad.

i agree with all of the people saying the old hymns are much better, with the exception of some new annointed bands, but even the old hymns do have some hint of the intimacy with God that you guys are speaking against i.e. "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" now I can't stress enough that I'm not in anyway speaking against or bashing the hymns(I love them, as mentioned earlier) but there is intimacy with God hinted, or even written about in the Bible i.e. (Song of Soloman, Bride of Christ mentionings) now I'm not sure if romance exists or if those were analogies for something less literal(look at Romans 7 where Paul says[sorry for any off-quotation] "but now no longer in wedlock to the law, but to Christ, we have freedom from the law") but I just wanted to clear some things up

Well, I would have to say most of it doesn't do that good a job of it, then. Like jbmorgan86 said, a lot of it seems to be awfully self-centered for something that's supposed to be about worshipping God. And I do think that it would be good to *also* have Christian music about different aspects of life; I really don't see any reason why that can't coexist with worship. That's like saying that a sermon can *only* consist of praise for God, and can't mention anything else people are experiencing in their lives.

And as far as why jbmorgan86 works in a church, it sounds like he is a Christian who doesn't happen to like most modern Christian music. He has already said many times that he likes some Christian music, just not the stuff that's generally played in his workplace. Why does having a different taste in music mean he's somehow unfit to work in a church?

And sex isn't? Seriously, sex doesn't have to be a dirty or un-Christian thing.
Yes, we get it, you like Red. I haven't listened to them, but I might give them a try; there's no guarantee that they'll be to my taste, though, as there is no single band that everybody likes. Personally, I *don't* like most modern Christian music, not so much because of innuendoes, but because a lot of it just sounds so insipid, and it doesn't seem to have much substance to it. I love a lot of old hymns and classical Christian music, and there is *some* modern Christian music I like, but there is much more I don't like, and I don't think that makes me any less of a Christian. I am also able to see some innuendoes in it, and I don't think that makes me a filthy-minded heathen. I'm not saying that the songwriters were *trying* to make a sexual song, but there are some lines that make me look askance, and I think that in a song that is definitely *not* supposed to be about sex, the writers should be aware of how things might be taken, and maybe change their phrasing a bit. Yes, just about anything can be made to sound dirty if someone *tries* to make it sound that way, but there are some things where it hardly takes any effort at all, and those should be avoided whenever possible.
