It is pretty true. There is a bit of provincialism that lingers in the midwest more so than other regions. It not only feels but it IS isolated from the rest of the country, i.e. major cities in the media/government/etc NYC/DC/Boston/SF/LA/Miami…
It really is just what it is. I am one of those “left wing loonies” I suppose, and agree, people probably view me as such, or a “damn hippy” … even in Chicago they are definitely not into hippy/environmental movements like the west coast.

I laughed at both of these comments. I would like to tell you why. I’m from the Midwest, and clearly, I know proper grammar. I also know how to spell. However, even if I did not know how to spell, I’m pretty sure I could figure out how to use a spell-checker. Thank you, Teri, for proving that persons living in California are breathing too much smog. Thank you, Marylander, for proving that the same holds true for those of you unfortunate enough to live on the east coast. Now you’ll have to excuse me while I go outside and breathe clean air. Completely agreed. I’m from the east coast and went to Iowa which was crap. Nothing but corn and crazy people that think 1 town hall equals a major city with no professional teams. You’re completely right about the brains too. I think it’s the lack of ocean breeze that’s getting to their heads.

FALSE! no one in PA or west virginia are normal!!! PA is just a bunch of one-a-be clever people that don’t know how to name a town. For instance, some town names: Blue balls, Intercourse, Lititz, Bird-In-Hand, Virginville, and Shickshinny. no one normal.
and west virgina shouldn’t be considered normal because they marry their cousins, which is gross and if thats what you define as normal then Maryland doesn’t want to be apart of it anyway :p

I moved to Illinois about 14 years ago from California. I have never been so disgusted by the lack of brains in my entire life. The Midwest is far from normal. People have serious issues out here. Its the ugliest place I’ve ever seen. I moved from Alaska, where I was born & lived there for about 12 years, to California. I’m not an Eskimo. I’m Greek & Italian. So this, whether its a joke or not, is crap. All boils down to the Midwest sucks & I’m right & that’s that.

No, I don’t generally comment on those sites, but I have read a sampling of their comments, and it’s definitely a special portion of the population that can fracture English to that degree and still have it be recognizable. Mostly. Gives me a headache after a page or two, but it doesn’t drive me nuts like those who can’t tell “your” from “you’re”. Or “to” from “two”. I’m not joking! I’ve seen that last one! I mean, how do you even make that mistake?! >.> I think that’s enough ranting.

Just about nailed it but, If the floridy bit was just X’d out and the brownish part was divided into the parts where they have sweet fireworks and the parts where they all wish they were banging their cousins and living in the red part and the Pennsylvania part was included in the blue part and Indiana part was kind of gerrymandered into the red part and the hawaii part was riding a surf board and the alaska part was a hypocritical fame whore whose son was retarded, you’d be spot on.

I’m from Alaska and going to college in the mdiwest–the sad thing? This is (as far as Alaska) pretty much the sad truth. They may not think “Eskimo”, but they sure as hell don’t think we’re normal people like everyone else–they treat AK as some incredibly different backwards foreign place, instead of your completely NORMAL state.
