… my family has a teacup chihuaha. She’s obnoxious, loud, and yippity. Nothing like our other 3 dogs.

Yeah, my Chi-mix is okay with other dogs her size, but she ran right up to a Rottie once barking, snarling, and nipping. She tried mounting her, too, but good thing someone was there to make sure she didn’t get eaten.

My dog is king Charles cavalier spaniel and he barks at almost nothing. Not even other dogs. If he does bark you can easily get him to be quiet instantly, he may not bark but he snores as loud as a train.

I work at a PetSmart so I see it eeeveryday -_- People bring in pitbull, labs, weimies, Great Danes mastiffs, boxers, etc and I usually never have to ask to even pet them because the dogs are already licking me and excited to be there (and happy to meet people). Its the little dogs that are like “Are you momma? No? Ok, there goes your face!” And their owners just go, aww pookie just ate your face, so cute! (I currently own a Dane and a mini-weenie and yes…this is still so true the great dane does whatever our weenie pup wants -_-)

Naw, it’s not that. It’s been shown that dogs closer to their wolf heritage are actually tamer than dogs that have the wolf bred out of them. Wolves are very social creatures, and to live in a good society, one has to know when to be dominate and submissive. Like humans, they learn the dominate traits first so they can survive as pups, then learn submissive (“sociable”) traits as adults so they don’t get eaten at every moment.

Wolf pups have broader noses and floppier ears than when they’re older, and thus the more domesticated a dog (floppier ears, broader noses), the more they’re basically wolf puppies that don’t know how to be submissive or socialize properly.

Eh, fck the owners. Even if a place DOESN”T have a leash law it’s courtesy. Ones that do have leash laws just allow me to kick legally. Sad thing is. I love animals. But I don’t love them running free jumping on me.

I have a rather normal chihuahua actually. Maybe it’s because I don’t pamper him. The next door neighbor’s mastiff is always barking up a storm, especially at 8am when I am sleeping. My dog is quiet.

I second this – The X axis should be the other way around, going from small to large – nice idea though.

Some other people have mentioned that the same graph would apply to owners, but this would discount the blokes named dave who buy a big dog to make themselves look hard. I fear that would be a trickier graph to get right

Aye, it’s definitely down to breeding.
A proper dog like a Dane would have to be put down if it was agressive. Where as these tiny toy breeds can be the most vicious little sods and just be considered cute.

Very true – our Yorkshire Terrier, a darling dog, has very little concept of her size (and she’s big at 10 lbs), and most Yorkies I see are the same way. They’re tough little buggers, but they just aren’t big . . .

I always remember we’ve bred some dogs to be smaller, but their brains haven’t changed and still think they’re wolves . . .

It’s because of the owner. Normal people usually get normal to large sized dogs and they’re fine. But assholes typically get the smaller ones and pamper them too much.

No kidding. I have a Lab in a neighborhood full of Dachshunds and Jack Russle Terriers… They bark at EVERYTHING and he barks at them…
Also, the more high-pitched the bark, the more they are likely to bark…

I was thinking something similar yesterday, when I was walking through a park. Some woman in front of me had a toy poodle, and someone on the grass a few feet away had a Newfie. Anklebiter tries to take on giant dog, giant dog looks at anklebiter like he’s nothing more than a pesky ant. hehe
