My mom’s burgers are very gross. I’m surprised they’re not still raw if I left her to her own devices. Seriously, hers is “done cooking” and eaten before mine is sufficiently cooked.

Er…actually, burgers are one food my parents don’t make very well. I prefer them at restaurants, though burgers at “fancy” restuarants tend to be almost as bad-tasting (and cooked a lot worse) than ones at fast food, so I find the best burgers at at places in between sit-down resturants and cheap fast-food places like Burger King.

My second reaction was “What fancy restaurant serves anything for under $10?”

Not a bad graph, but Amusement Park, Fast Food, and Homemade would have been plenty to make your point and lolz.

When it comes to burgers outside of home, nothing beats In-N-Out Burgers, especially for those who are lucky enough to live in areas where there is one available (mostly Southern California and other parts of the western half of the United States).

I always use 80/20 for meat. It’s usually the cheapest and is much juicier. And most people already have the condiments around, which for sure makes it seem cheaper.

Always use 80/20 ground beef. It’s cheaper and fattier. Fattier means juicier (just watch for grease fires!). And I knew exactly why you had them so far down expense-wise. Cheap buns aren’t necessarily inferior. And if you go to Aldi, you’re all set! Just don’t add salt to the meat before or while you’re cooking it unless you want sawdust in your mouth.

Well, let’s do some math then (in Euro’s):

12-pack of frozen patties: maybe €2,-, could be less (depends on the brand), I usually buy the cheapest stuff I can get
12-pack of buns (usually they come in 10 or 8, so I make double cheeseburgers): €0.90
a cucumber: €0.45
onions: €0.80
ketchup and mustard: €1,- (cheapest brands)
cheddar cheese slices: €1.50 (I think)

Total: €6.65
Divided by 10 (8 single cheeseburgers, 2 double): €0.67
Price of a hamburger at McDonald’s: €1,-

So yeah, the block for ‘homemade’ is pretty accurate.

If you’re buying cheap meat, tiny patties, cheap buns and such? I can see $.50 What I don’t see is a cheap patty on cheap buns being superior to fancy restaurant burgers. You have to invest at least a little into the meat. I make pretty good burgers, but they probably end up around $1.00. Around $1 – 2 I could consistently beat Fancy, but most of the time I’m just grilling for me and the bf.

I wasn’t trying to be 100% accurate. Often people have ingredients to make in their house, and besides, ground beef around 3 bucks, being the most expensive ingredient, you can make four-six burgers for the price of one at a restaurant. I didn’t realize how picky the comments were here. I’ll be more accurate next time I think of a graph.

Depends on when you go. Occationally, I get a really good burger there, but other times I get a burger that’s shaped like a crescent moon and only has toppings on one side. But the quality of the fries only varies from great to OMG.

Shoulda added the Room Service burger, which varies wildly from dried-out blarf to “bestest burger on the planet”. The later in the night you order it, plus how drunk you are, influences its awesomeness. Nevermind the outrageous cost, being able to eat without leaving your hotel room is priceless.

That really depends on where you go. I had a Kobe beef burger before it was pretty good. In the show Three Sheets, Zane Lamprey was in Vegas and had a $700 burger w/ Kobe beef and lobster tail, and it looked like he enjoyed it very well!!! (see episode in hulu)

Er, have you looked at food prices lately? The ingredients for homemade burgers divided by number of burgers made totals closer to $2 than $0.

I nitpick because I care.
