For one, there are no US oil companies operating in Iran. Only Dubai, China, and one big Dutch company.

b) but since the guilt-by-inaction argument’s on the table here, for goodness’ sake, Jack, don’t suggest this tired exclusion–”and don’t go for the unoriginal ‘defense spending’”–that tries to hide its inanity by calling an opposing argument ‘unoriginal.’ The reason this exclusion is tired, and not valid, is that ‘originality’ has nothing to do with the moral question at hand. There is, simply put, no question whatsoever that the United States could (if democracy works at all, that is) cut its military spending dramatically. And it should do so. The fact that this is not a new idea is irrelevant.

If the people who collectively and singly imagine themselves to, together, comprise the United States should work up the nerve and the character to do so, they could (can!) elect governments that will cut military spending by abiding by international law and participating as one power among many in international judicial bodies. If this should happen, there would be an extraordinary amount of money freed up for other purposes.

At the very least, people in the U.S. with gumption should hold Obama accountable for offering clear, viable plans for accomplishing the above. And that really is the absolute least, indeed.

That’s a shame to hear. Fear drives people, including people in power, to do drastic things; the last thing the world needs is a government acting out of fear.

clinton never lied to congress to get us into an invasion in a foreign country that caused the death of hundreds of thousands of individuals fighting an invading force.

Never caused us to go from being a world superpower to being a laughingstock and basically turned us from being the good guys to torturing and raping prisoners who we hold without having any evidence for doing so other than information gained through torturing other people.

Bush didn’t just attack another nation because he believed the information to be correct, the presidency was hijacked by a neo-conservative movement hell bent on invading arab countries and killing muslims.

OK “Fritz”, how? If you feel you are correct, tell us all:

-what it will cost
-what programs (and don’t go for the unoriginal “defense spending” will receive reduced funding to cover the costs
-how it will be implemented
-where the treatment facilities will be located
-who will run it
-how will we make sure the clean water reaches those who need it

No? Oh, that’s right, remembering that would force you to admit that Bush is not the first president to attack other nations based on incorrect information he believed to be correct.
