Yes, the ’80s were a tragic time. There are fashion disasters to make one weep in every decade. We might’ve been better off today had Mustaine and some of his brethren put the pick (hair, that is) down. I’ll still take the ’80s thrash version of tragedy over the ’80s glam version any day.

Erm… I don’t think Rob Sardella was in Megadeth. And Slayer as wannabees?! Hush yo’ mouth!

I certainly don’t think ’80s thrash/speed/death metal bands were loath to touch hairspray (nice ‘dos there, Celtic Frost), but they were probably more guilty of using InstaPerm than anything else. And when they did get busy with the AquaNet, they caressed it lovingly, sweetly, unlike glam’s wham-bam-thank-you-ma…ooh-look-another-chick! approach. That’s just the way they rolled. Gentle-like.

Surely you jest. Slayer? 3 of 4 have girl hair. The name alone makes them complete wannabees. Megadeth? Rob Sardella had the prototypical chick look and hair through the 80′s. Sabbath was a 70′s band. (Started in ’68 actually) Iron Maiden was total hairspray through the 80′s. (also a 70′s band, 1975) I think you may have one there with Metallica.

So, OK, that’s one. 4 to go.
