I was a “wee lassie” (as Scotty would say) when “wrath of Khan” came out…and I hated it. Not because of the plot or acting, but because of those awful “bug” things that got put in one of main characters’ ears (can’t remember if it was Kirk or someone else…I was too young to really remember it)

I’ve never worn costumes to any of the openings of Star Trek–or Star Wars for that matter. I honestly don’t see the point, because I think that one need not prove their being a fan of a movie or tv series without seeking to totally dress like a character on a day that is neither convention day or Hallowe’en.

That being said, I cobbled together a “Jedi” costume for Hallowe’en of 2004: Cream-colored long-sleeved t-shirt, short white cotton kimono-style robe, khaki-colored pants and low-heeled leather boots. Sadly, however, I could not afford a light-saber that was not in the “kids” section of Kmart. ;-P

I just wish my metabolism were not against me losing enough weight to dress like Trinity (from the Matrix) for Hallowe’en. *sighs*

Exactly, that’s why I watch star trek. For the awesome tribble stuff. Obviously I don’t love every episode, but why would somwone come oonto a page just to complain about Star Trek? Thanks forthe awesome tribble comment Sunshine.

Heh…..I did NOT go in costume, but I did go on opening day, as it was the day after finals ended.

I’m still in the middle of making four costumes for a convention I’m not even going to be able to attend. Anyway, at least I’m not one of those who became a Trekkie/Trekker (WTF, mates?) AFTER seeing new movie.

I have worn costumes to conventions for the last 25 years; it’s like halloween with a theme, and tons of fun if you like a bit of attention, but I digress…
I have 3 sons under 15, and ALL of them want to see this film! I have o problem with that; they also wanted to see Transformers, and were dissapointed with how fast things moved, sometimes, in that flick.
That being said, they all say the reason they want to see this is that the promo’s rock, and the action i sall over the place, and they like the characters friction in the advertisements…
Geeze.. conflict. action. a bit of skin. ships battling, boom boom, blasters/phasers, and few funny bits!!
Sounds better than an Indy film!!!!!!!!
PLAY!!!!!!!!!

When I say (some of us), i mean the all around SciFi fans, or the converts (like me,I was a SW fanatic, now I’m a ST fanatic, and think of SW as 3.5 star (kinda good)).

Well, maybe, maybe not. Many films do this in their ads just to capture attention, but it turns out to be drastically better. What I don’t like is how many ST fans (I’m a ST fanatic, just to tell you) are afraid of new series….they said the same thing about TNG, DS9, VOY, and some of the movies, but now many of the fans love the new stuff.

They do have different flavors. I’m a ST freak, but I respect SW…..but I think that Star Trek has the more complex story, but Star Wars has action….what the action/sci-fi -type audience wants….not to say that I’m one of those types….I just like ST better than SW….

I don’t have any costumes that fit me (or money for fabric – sigh), but I inherited my dad’s Kirk costume… which, in fact, HAS been sitting in a closet since “Wrath of Khan”. And yes, my mom made it. She’s awesome.

Unless you are experiencing some sort of temporal anomaly, your graph is flawed. Ebay was not founded until September 3, 1995; The Wrath of Khan was released on June 4, 1982.

Gotta say that is my favorite one of the old school Trek movies. It had some great quotes. “Well, double damn you!”

Hopefully the new movie will revitalize the franchise even slightly after Berman and Braga drove it into the ground with Enterprise and Nemesis. I never thought any could make me hate The Next Generation, but they did it! God, that movie sucked, and this is coming from someone who finds Voyager watchable!

^ Thank you. There’s really no comparing the two because they’re set in two totally different situations with entirely different technology sets. Overall, Star Trek has the more charismatic cast in general while Star Wars has a much more emotionally compelling story.

That show was the CSI: Miami of the 1970′s. It didn’t even make 80 episodes for a reason.

Now nothing can touch the original Star Wars movies.

i just saw the preview for the new trek last night. i have to say that i was saddened by what i saw. it doesn’t look like star trek at all. it looks like a bad action film. there were lots of explosions and a couple of one-liners and some t&a. i will see the movie despite the terrible preview, but i expect to be disappointed.

and yes, i realize that explosions, bad one-liners and t&a have made appearances in trek films before, but they didn’t make up the bulk of the film as i fear they will in this one.
