Have to disagree with you there if you’re talking about Dumbledore, which I’m pretty sure you are. It never came into play in the book and she only mentioned it when someone asked if he ever found “true love”. She didn’t make a huge press release saying “HEY EVERYONE DUMBLEDORE’S GAY!”, just something she mentioned in passing in response to a question. Don’t think that counts as a cry for attention.
The fact that it played no role in the story and didn’t come out in the books (so to speak) makes it more likely that it was a grab for attention.
I thought it seem like it wasn’t that important to his character because if it had been apparent in the books, that would be all anyone would focus on.
