The insurance circle should be wholly contained subset of the affordable car circle. What car can you not afford but can afford insurance on? But there will be cars you can afford but the insurance would destroy you.

Well, either way, you have a good chance of getting in trouble. But, required is right about the circle touching the other two. It is a little confusing but it all works out in a way. If you can’t pay for the car but you can pay for the insurance, you know something bad might happen. Same happens the other way around. But if the car you want falls in both of the circles, then its just ego “explosion” gone wrong if you know what I mean. Just think of a Farrari, a big crash into a tree, and the rest is obvious.

… it wouldn’t be such a bad situation if you could either a. afford the insurance but not afford the car, and thus have the car repossessed after you default on your loan; or b. afford the car but not the insurance, and thus lose your driver’s license as soon as someone at the DMV realizes you’ve lapsed?

Somehow, I have trouble following this logic.

doesn’t the fact that the “Cars I want” circle is touching the other two circles imply that there are at least 2 cars in existence which satisfy being both a “Car I want” and either one of the “Cars I can afford to buy” or one of the “Cars I can afford insurance on?” i think it does, and that wouldn’t be such a bad situation, i guess.

Depends on your point of view, I guess.
Do I find it wryly amusing that there are a veritable plethora of automobiles rusting on lots while the Big-3 stand in line and beg for alms, even as they and the insurance industry have artificially priced the aforementioned vehicles out of the range of folks such as the graph maker? You bet I do.
Do I think it’s funny that I want yet cannot afford both the cost of the car and insurance for a Bugatti Mansory Veyron Vincero? Not so much, I guess.
