Think WoW with pen, paper, plastic figures, actual dice for the random number generators, and a grid-based combat system. Then add in social gatherings, or in some cases (like mine) full blown parties every other weekend just to play.

also as far as playing a dragonborn, maybe you should look at some of the other 3.5 books than the player’s handbook, DM gude, and Monster Manual. 3.5 has an entire book dedicated to Draconic races. I’m sure there’s probably even more than one. So suck to your dragonborn: I’ll play a spellscale in 3.5e.

Just… no. I don’t get the appeal of an average MMO that’s pay-to-play when there’s so many like Vindictus, Mabinogi, Face of Mankind, Cabal Online, etc. out there that are free to play and have such amazing original ideas. Sure Cabal is an average gameplay system just like WoW, and the engrish fails start rearing their ugly heads around the level 40 quests, but at least the skills are unique, the classes have no real overlaps (as in, every single one has its own individual advantage over the others with no two classes being like sorcerer/wizard where the difference is miniscule) and the whole visual is abso-freaking-lutely amazing. I’ve played WoW, and I canceled my subscription after the free trial.

In short, It was average crap as far as MMOs go.

I started playing D&D back in the winter of 74-75 I own about every edition there is. D&D and other role playing games kept me out of a lot of trouble. I am 45 soon to be 46 I still play and will continue to do so, and yes I am real Preacher.

I have tried to get into D&D offline before, without much success.

The group older than me wouldn’t let me in The group my age would, but we were all newbies, including the DM who insisted on making his own campaign. -_- I never knew an entire underground cave system full of dragons could be so intensely boring.

The online group I’ve found since is far more interesting.

when we were 15 year old gamers we asked ourselves if we would still be playing at 40…the answer then was yes and….we are still playing (i be 41)

i found this amusing but on the flip side i find ‘jackass’ offensive

the last DnD product was 3.5, which btw is far more versatile and better suited to shadowrun type urban adventures….

I also played Gamma World, Traveler, Aftermath, Car Wars, King Maker, and Mechanoid Invasion back in the day.

Of coarse the time I spent playing AD&D meant I ended up with a 1.8GPA my freshman year in High School. My Dad’s belt, a sudden interest in sports, girls, and Mary Jane helped me to graduate HS with a 2.4 GPA. woot!

Without us, there would be no RPGs. And I think it’s fair to venture that D&D is actually less nerdy than WoW (which I also play) or whatever video RPG, because it involves REAL social skills, actually being around people and hanging out. I’m going to teach my kids to play when I have some, lol.

I’m a 40+ year old D&D player and the group I play/DM with have, for the most part, played together since we were 12 and 13 year olds.

None of our kids think we’re cool…
… that said none of them think we’re child molesters either.

most of them just think “sweet! dad and mum are busy for the next few hours, we get exclusive use to the Wii and can steal their snack food”
