Actually, you do see big waves out at sea. You are correct, however, in saying that you do not see tsunamis at sea. Tsunamis are not big waves, but rather shock waves (usually from an earthquake) that are turned into huge walls of water when the seafloor suddenly rises (near the shoreline).
