First of all, all acts a human being does or does not do are selfish. Trying to get into heaven? Selfish, too, and there’s no arguing about that. Why do I treat other people well, why am I kind, and why do I enjoy the company of my friends? Because I’m a selfish bastard who likes my buddies and the time I can pass with them. I am selfish because I know that acts of kindness are often repaid – holding open the door for an elderly lady and receiving her thanks is a decent enough reward for such a minor task. Driving a friend to school even though it’s my day off will also be repaid in future, and if not, at least I can take selfish joy in the fact I helped a friend out.

All humans are selfish. I have spoken about this with my best friend, and he agrees that he, too, does everything because of pure selfishness. We don’t need gods to be kind or good to others. We only do to others what we’d hope others would do to us. There is no need for a violent, mass-murdering omnipotent figure to force our hand into good lest he rains fire upon us and sends us to hell.

Christianity has many good values, but it didn’t invent them. The Bible is a mis-match of many much older writings from many different religions put together. There is no God, and there is no Satan. Even if there was a god, a goddess, or whatever you would want to call an omnipotent creature, he is nothing like any of our man-made religions would picture him/her/it as.

Also, countless people have died because of religion. It is a cancer upon mankind, promoting stagnation and ruin. We, as a species, would be much better off following a ideology of philosophical thinking, progress and harmony, rather than a dividing, warlike code written by desert nomads in their tent thousands of years ago.

Enjoying life DOES NOT equal going through your every whim and instinct. It is also about restrain, self-control and thought.

1) Though shall not kill

We’re all guilty of it. Threatening to harm someone in any way is commiting this sin. Crusades happened because the pope wanted to take control of Jerusalem, the City of God. They were fanatical, yes, but its no better than taking any other belief too far. God gives people what they justly deserve. Any sin we have commited damns us all to Hell. God has forgiven us but he is not afraid to smite those who abandoned him completely. KKK is super fanatical, which is why everyone, especially other Christians, hate them. Well, except those who are too stereotypical for there own damn good.

2) Though shall not commit adultery.

Yeah, we’re all guilty of this one too. Just thinking about someone inappropriately makes us commit this sin and even making someone think those thoughts through are actions. The only time we don’t commit this is when it is with our spouse but anyone else is a no. As with Mary, she was a virgin all her life. She was born without sin unlike everyone else so that she could give birth to Jesus who is God in flesh.

3) Who is God?

God is love. Love is forgiving. Love is kind. Love holds no bounds. And love never remembers past faults. God will forgive us no matter what if we believe in him. He is in his own words, “The Alpha and the Omega. the First and the Last. The Beginning and End.” God is everything and everyone. He know everything we do, down to our most secret thoughts, words and actions. He loves us with all his heart (no duh we’re his children) but is not beyond punishing us when we turn away from him. This is what caused Sodom and Gamora (Spelling?) and the fall of numerous nations and even Israel when they turn into idolotry like two dozen times.

Because Jesus died on the cross along with the punishment we all justly deserve God saved us from everlasting torment in Hell. Because of this God has allowed us eternal life but only as long as we worship him and only him. This is why I believe and why God is truth, love, and life.

You cannot to claim your religion to be superior, as in order to prove others to not exist would therefore disprove existence of your own.

I am an aetheist.

A superior being such as so called “God” cannot exist due to many factors:

1. The universe always existed and will always continue to exist. The Big Bang DID happen, but alas, the universe existed previously.
2. In the Bible, Genesis describes the Christian belief on how the universe came to be. The Bible disproves itself in how “God” created in days before days were created. A unit of time cannot exist without relation unless the unit of time is fictional.

3. Although this third point may not disprove gods and godesses it can immensely deter the continued belief in one’s own religion. The current Bible is incomplete. A final book : The Book of Revelation was removed from the Bible in order to gain more trust in the followers in “God”. The Book of Revelation was fueled by the writers anger toward the actions that included and followed the crusifiction of “Jesus.” Within, the Book of Revelation describes apocalypse following the Romans and, quite simply, all Christians magicly being beamed up by Scotty in the Rapture in preperation in the destruction of the Roman Empire. Many reference points this book may be able to relate to the current day are obsolete without terraforming the entire planet. And besides, Apocalypses cannot happen twice. Aye?

May these notes stop all following arguments as they will prove aetheists to be correct.

So…as a Christian who’s slightly perplexed by all the fuss, I’m just gonna go out there and state that yes, it is a Biblical fact that the God of the Old Testament commanded the children of Israel to fight numerous wars and in some cases commanded them to utterly annihilate the cities they were attacking (a process by which literally everything in the city would be killed or burned)…and although its implied that Satan has his fingers in several abhorrent events (such as Manasseh, King of Israel, sacrificing his children to the pagan god Molech), the Bible only explicitly states that Satan directly murdered people in the book of Job (Job’s children and their unfortunate friends get killed).

I’m slightly flabbergasted by the Christians who try to deny this, as its pretty much there in black and white. Now, I personally think that the respective cultures slated for destruction might have had it coming (but then I’ve never found Assyrian or Philistine tactics particularly endearing), and there are numerous examples where God commanded portions of the culture to be preserved (or specific cities to be preserved) whereas other ones were wiped out, but…that doesn’t change the fact of what happened Biblically.

However, that aside…its a funny graph. I’m a Christian, and even I thought the graph was funny. I don’t see it as some searing affront to the Christian faith, nor do I see it as any sort of proof for either the Christian or the non-Christian viewpoint. But I guess the old saying is as true now as it was decades ago:

“WHENEVER YOU THROW A ROCK INTO A PACK OF DOGS, THE ONES WHO BARK THE LOUDEST ARE THE ONES YOU HIT”. Perhaps both the Christian and non-Christian commentors could bear this in mind, please.

On the other hand, if you think that the Bible is just a work of fiction, and that everyone in it are characters à la Harry Potter and Gollum, well, then God is also a fictional character, not a human being writing the Bible. You may as well say “well, Harry Potter has a right to kill people in his book”. Note that Tolkein and Rowling are not characters in their book (The Bible stars God), and they don’t have the right to kill anyone in real life either. If the Bible is a work of fiction, your analogy must be with its writers, ie Matthew Mark Luke and John etc. And whether the Bible is fiction or not, they aren’t allowed to kill real people either. Though certainly they can create a fictional character, “God” who can kill within the book. Sort of ruins the idea of God having created the universe though then… being on par with Harry Potter, just another beloved imaginary character battling evil in a bestselling novel.

I was trying to think up an analogy for that one. Like not practicing any sports is a sport in itself. No. Atheism means not believing in a god. That is NOT a religion. I can go for my whole life without thinking of a god, let alone if there is a mono god or animistic god or poly gods. Not following any rules, dogma, book, worship, practices, meetings, or even organised thought about it in any manner. There is no way in the world that each of us separate atheists are each practicing a religion of atheism, my deluded Melody.

And is ANYONE else really tired of Rachel and her inability to type “and” instead of “adn” (which is french for “DNA”) and her earnest preschooler-like blind cheering for “us” vs “them”?
