You should have left a YouTube link to the song “Money for Nothing”.
The song came out long after MTV did. The slogan “I want my MTV” was created by MTV, and was made even more popular by the song. In the early days of MTV, back when it was still good, they ran several campaigns like the one above, featuring various rock stars of the 1980s (Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, Bon Jovi, etc.) saying “I want my MTV!” The campaigns often ran on other cable networks, advising viewers to call their cable companies and say “I want my MTV”.
Overcomplicated explanation: fail.
Barbeque Sauce!
