  1. Danyell says:

This chart could be expressed more simply as crap v. music.

The worst part is that you’d have to actually *watch* MTV all the time to actually be able to make this/understand it. I assumed they stopped playing music in 1996.

  2. Ten Speed says:

Awesome chart. Perfectly explains MTV ca. 2007. Rob n Big was such a funny show IMO, and was pretty much the only thing worth watching on MTV.

  3. oldairplanes says:

This graph- it speaks the truth!

  4. Mot says:

I am assuming the sliver representing “real music” is an artifact of the margin of error in your analysis. As the margin closes, that sliver should approach zero. Also why so much “music” of any kind? Does background during the shows count? If not then I have trouble trusting these figures because THERE IS NO MUSIC ON MUSIC TELEVISION!

  5. Blue says:

    y-axis?

  6. ICHABOB. says:

Actually, there is SOME music on MTV. Not a whole lot, at least not enough for it’s name to gratify anything. Because it’s not solely based on music, you all feel the need to bash it. Not all the shows on MTV are good, but this graph got it right, Rob And Big is a fairly highly watched show.

  7. Metakev says:

Soooo true! do you know when there is music in MTV? At 6 o’clock in the morning!!!

  8. 4 long yet happy years says:

Its been 4 years, and I would much prefer the tv shows they were showing on mtv in 2008 to the crap they claim to be tv shows in 2012. In 4 more years we’ll probably miss Jersey Shore, and The Kardashians or wtv plays on mtv these days
